We like KOA, they're not the cheapest, but the facilities are the best. We'll stay at KOA
when it's power/ shower/laundry/wi-fi time. The KOA in Flagstaff, Arizona is great!

We stayed at several KOA's during our two week trip last month with mixed results. The best KOA we stayed at was in Cascade Locks, Oregon (nothing particularly special but well maintained, lots of mature trees and nice area). We also liked the Reno/Boomtown KOA just West of Reno, Nevada (very clean, tidy and surprisingly quiet). The worst KOA we stayed at was in Rock Springs, Wyoming. This place has so many transient residents working on the local oil/gas fields that it's basically a trailer park. Stay there during the week and you will be awakened by the roar of truck engines at 6:00 am as everyone leaves for work. We also stayed at a true "destination KOA" just outside Astoria, Oregon - the Astoria/Warrenton/Seaside KOA & Resort. This place is huge (I would guess 800+ RV sites plus numerous tent sites and cabins, a heated indoor pool, large sundries store, arcade, laundry facilities, etc... They charge a "resort fee" of $5 per person in addition to the camping fee which entitles you to a daily all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast and other activities (ice cream socials, etc...) It was well maintained but very noisy (screaming kids) and lots of in/out traffic all day long.
KOA's are a nice breathers every so often to catch up on laundry, maintenance and email but, like many of you, we prefer state parks when that is an option.
Twin Grove KOA in Pine Grove, PA is an outstanding KOA. The campground has been around FOREVER, probably long before KOA was established. There is a mini-amusement park with rides and and antique merry-go-round for the kids, a nice arcade, and a very nice pool. The staff is plentiful and very friendly and helpful. The grounds are spotless. The camp store is very large and has lots supplies. There is also a full service restaurant serving three meals a day and snacks. We were there one day for the breakfast buffet and the food was very good. I did think it was a little on the expensive side. We had a back in site with full hook ups and I think it was over $50.00 a night, we did save 10% with our KOA discount card.
We are headed to the Harper's Ferry, WV KOA in October and I will report on that one once we get back.

For anyone traveling east and west on I 70 I hear that the KOA DAYTON.OHIO is excellent. Although I live near I have not seen the facility. I did try to contact them for permission to tour with out staying and they finally reply with "WHAT INSPECTION CO ARE U WITH?" According to their ad they are at $58 a nite .Just a might to steep for me but thats just me.
Check em out.Oh I almost forgot our state parks are nice too. We have stayed at two so far this yr and been pleased with both . Clean and well taken care of and for $20+ per night.

I have to agree. State and national parks give you more room per space than KOA or most private campgrounds. If you need the amenities (hookups, laundry, pool), then I suppose KOA can save you some money over the RV resorts. But if scenery, ample space, and a natural setting are your bag (like us), then public parks are your best bet, and they're a bargain. For overnight layovers between destinations, we will settle for a "Flying J" or Walmart because they are more accessible from a main highway, and all we need is a place to "drop anchor" for the night.

The only KOA we have stayed in since we got the Airstream was in Naples, FL when we couldn't find a place and I was tired of driving. It was fine. We could hook up and watch tv and we went in the pool but we don't look for them. I like independent campgrounds.

OK...I'm not much of a KOA fan but I have a reservation to stay at one for a night in Coarsegold, CA. Hopefully it will be good, but then again it's just a stopover point on our way to the Eastern Sierra. Anyone ever stay there?
Like everything else I don't think you can put all in one catagory. The KOA in Flagstaff has the RUDEST people at the front desk, I wouldn't even stay there. I was surprised that someone else had a good experience there. Just goes to show you.
The KOA in Laughlin ~ AVI I found nice, has a casino and they pick you up and drop you off at your rv.
So many RV parks these days are hit and miss situations, just have to take your chances.
We've actually done a 10 state loop through the center of the country staying at only KOAs... my wife likes them, and she did the trip planning... and we were fortunate to have no troubles with any of them.

We've only been in a couple, the first was in Black Mountain, NC near Asheville, and it was great. Had 3 lakes and trout fishing in a stream, really nice and the people who owned it were great. The place was huge. There was one that we stopped at late at night in Tennesee, (Buffalo maybe?) that was ok, we only stayed the night and left early in the morning so we didn't check it out really well. The one in Joplin, Mo is ok, we checked it out just for fun before we got our Argosy. Nothing special to write home about tho. So we haven't been in any bad ones, yet. We will probably stay in independant campgrounds in any future travels, state parks and the like.
