Kentucky to Rockport, Texas

Enjoyed the Cajun Country Caravan last march. Larry and Judy did it right. "Laissez le Bon Temps Rouler" Didn't realize how close we were to Texas though.
So now planning a trip(2-3 week) soon to skirt the gulf coast along Texas toward Rockport TX.
Any thoughts of camping areas along the way.

We ran into one of those caravans touring the Louisiana state capital March 2013! Had a great visit and tagged along with their tour.

We had left Lake Fausse Point state park in Louisiana. It's out in swamp country and thirty minutes or so from Avery Island (where they make Tabasco). Hardly any cell service, but they do pipe in wifi and have free laundry!

Around rock port we've stayed at goose island state park and loved it. They have campsites on the beach, but we stayed back in some of the other loops under the trees. You're less than an hour from Corpus Cristi and I recommend touring the aircraft carrier Lexington, the blue ghost.

The Natchez Trace has been highlighted before in other threads.

The close coastal highway in LA is of interest. Slow. Rockefeller bird sanctuary. From there one can pretty well hug the coast all the way to Rockport. Whooping cranes, etc.

I-10 to Breaux Bridge, South on 31 to St. Martinsville then on to New Iberia, Hwy 182 through Franklin to Morgan City.. Almost same route taken by Easy Rider filming... but they did it going AWAY from New Orleans... anyone know why?

Because of the VIEW as they were traveling to have certain things in the 'background'.. and, they couldn't get up early enough to have the sun in the proper position... so I am told...

Many landmarks still there..

We went across IH10 in Louisiana twice last year, and with the exception of a few miles on the West side of Atchafalaya Swamp Bridge, all of IH10 has been repaired.
