Question Kentucky Campgrounds

I am looking for opinions on campgrounds in Kentucky, especially near the I-75 corridor. Another thread described the KHP campground. Has anyone tried the state parks or the Cumberland Historic area at the Virginia border? We are looking for places to stay on-the-road or for just a few days.

While I live in KY we have yet to explore many of the campground in the state. I have hear good things about the "horse park" in Lexington KY. Don't know any details but it has been recommened a number of time to me from other area campers.

When we do camp in state we prefer the state parks and army copr parks to the KOA's right off the interstate (65 in our case). There is a great website for the state parks (corp parks included) at http://parks.ky.gov/

Best of luck and enjoy your stay in the Bluegrass State!

We have been in that area and found that the state parks are pretty old and were designed for small trailers and tents. We checked on the one near Cumberland Gap and found the campsites were too small for the 30' trailer that we had at the time. There is also a primitive National Park Campground at Cumberland Gap. We were not impressed with it either. We did find a nice Corp of Engineers Park on a lake near Corbin and not far from Cumberland FAlls. I believe it is called Grove Recreation Area. Large, paved, wooded sites with water/electric and a dump station. Its been 4 or 5 years so things may have changed.

Good luck,
Lee
