Thought some might be interested...
I've been to Palm Springs a half dozen times over the last decade and always wanted to make a visit to Kate's Lazy Desert (KLD), but never did until the other day. For those not familiar with KLD or it's owner, you can find it easily online. I enjoy some of the B-52's songs and was intrigued by KLD when I first saw it advertised (somewhere, I forget).
Unfortunately the place was locked up. Not sure if it is a seasonal place. In Palm Springs, October seems to be the "beginning" of seasonal things - I assume due to the extreme heat in the summer.
The place is surrounded by an electric fence with a padlocked gate. There was no sign of activity but yet the place did not seem abandoned nor in disrepair. What I didn't realize was how relatively remote this place is... about a 60+ minute drive north of Palm Springs. Last mile is rippled sand roads to get there and among a rural residential area. Really caused me to question the business case being so far off the beaten path, but maybe its remoteness is what attracts its clientele.
Still, pretty cool artwork inside these units as seen on their website - I saw 6 units there.
