Kalamazoo area campgrounds

Suddenly I find I have a short window of time to take a quick trip to MI.

Does anyone have any suggestions of where to stay around Kalamazoo with my 19ft bambi? I don't need hookups and am only looking to overnight while visiting friends in the area.

Desired radius of 15 miles or so around Kalamazoo.

All suggestions are welcome.

KZOO Campgrounds

If you don't need full hookups, go to Ft. Custer State park near Augusta. This is about 8 miles from KZO. They have electric but no other hookups (this is Michigan State Park designation as a "Modern" campground). There is dump station with water as well. About half the sites are paved so you will have a choice.

We live in the Kalamazoo area and use Ft. Custer as our first trip of the season (our shakedown trip out of winter storage) and often for a final close trip in the Fall.

Thank you Jeff. I looked at Ft. Custer but it is booked on the 10th and 11th.

Would you have any comments on county parks Cold Brook or Markins Glen?

I don't need the park amenities as I'll be generally away from the trailer visiting my son in town, but don't want an unsafe area either.

Thanks, Marshall

For future reference, I too would recommend Ft. Custer. The sites have a patch of woods between them and are easy to back into. If you like Mt. biking, it is the #1 spot in southern michigan with miles of bike trails. There is also a pretty big lake in the park.
