Cool Just returned from Ft. Canby, WA

We just returned from a weekend at Ft. Canby SP, WA. This is on the SW corner of WA state, where the Columbia River meets the Pacific. It's a very pretty park, with rain forests and beach front areas. The main campgrounds are on beaches that formed after the jettys were built.

We arrived Friday afternoon without reservations and they put us in a no-hookups site (good thing I brought the blue boy) near a small lake, surrounded by tent campers and a few other late arriving RVs. We went hiking out to the lighthouses (there are two, one on the Columbia and one on the Pacific), which the dogs enjoyed very much, as lots of people on the trails stopped to pet them.

We had dinner out one night, at a place called the Loose Caboose or something like that, located in an old train caboose in Seaview WA (just up the coast), and had the best clam chowder I've ever tasted. Mmmm....

Each night the rangers had fireside presentations by the beach explaining the history of the area and how the jettys were built to make ship traffic safer entering the Columbia.

The weather was mild, foggy in the mornings, and VERY windy. We got to watch the tenters suffering in their flapping, collapsible homes, one guy's even got away while he was setting it up and he had to chase it down the road, while we watched from inside our warm, comfortable AS :-)

We were in a nice spot under trees, and skinny little twigs fell on the trailer a couple times. I couldn't see that they did any damage, and there were no other spots to move to, so we just hoped for the best. Nothing big fell on us luckily, but they sure made a racket when they hit!

Otherwise, the trailer performed perfectly, towed great, all the appliances worked this time (last trip we couldn't get the fridge to work), and the black tank got full just in time to go dump it on the way out Sunday morning. It was a very nice trip, nice park, and I would definitly go again anytime.
