Just got our first Airstream!

Hello to all...my husband and I just got our first Airstream after years of dreaming of one! We bought a 2004 19' Bambi and can't wait to get her out and about. We live in Montana but really want to take her to the northern Oregon/Olympic Peninsula when temps warm up a bit. Does anyone out there have any suggestions for us?

Thanks so much and can't wait to use this site a lot!

I believe campsites must be overbooked in my area. We have campers in our Walmart lots this year- quite a few at a time, and they are no parking Walmarts. In the past you might see one or so but not a half dozen or more at a time. That said, you could join them! You may be able to try out that air conditioner too.

Hi there, Congrats on your new Airstream! There is/was a rv park on Lake Crescent at the Olympic National Park. It is very close to Lake Crescent Lodge which is near Port Angeles WA. It would be a good home base while expiring the park. Just south of Forks WA is a campground in Kalaloch.(which is inside the Olympic National Park) Its dry camping but it is an absolute awesome place. Sunset magazine recommended a site there several years ago. I suppose you could Google the article and try and get that site. In Oregon, we go to Cannon Beach RV resort a few times a year. Its about a half a mile to the beach and there is a nice downtown area for you to enjoy. Further south near Depot Bay there is the Sea and Sand RV resort. Try and get one of the sites facing the ocean. You won't want to leave! Depot Bay is a neat place to visit. We always see whales near the shore which adds to the experience. Any Oregon State park that has RV camping is worth trying. Have a great time!

Both the Oregon and Washington coasts are great. As long as you are out here you can take your Bambi on a ferry ride up to Vancouver Island Canada and head to Tofino also.
Mountain sites on route can't be missed. Having said that, it you take the Canadian route through the Rockies and Banff....that is extra ordinary and the U.S. route back.
Excited for you

Congrats! I know nothing about your part of the country so no suggestions other than:

1) keep smiling - it's a great feeling isn't it?
2) check out your local chapter of the WBCCI and attend a rally or two. You'll likely meet some great folks, learn a lot about your trailer and probably get great insights on camping excursions
3) search these forums for every question you have. You'll find a lot of helpful advice here and a bunch of creative ideas.

Good luck and enjoy!

Congratulations!

Well, well...

Pretty soon you'll probably know where every Airstream in Zoo-town is parked or stored (even under the snow)! (Or, maybe you already do!)

You're going to love it!

Congrats. We started with (and I still miss our) Bambi! Please PM and I will give you a call ... we can talk about all sorts of experiences. OilnH2o is our neighbor.

There is an inexpensive RV park right off I90 in Ritzville for a nice intermediate stop on the way to WA/OR.

Region 10 WBCCI Rally is in Astoria OR this year ... it would be great to see you there.

Good news, there are so many great campgrounds in OR and WA that it's not possible to list them all here! Between the national parks and forests, state and county parks, and private campgrounds, you're pretty much guaranteed to find some great camping, whether it's along the coast or deep in the mountains.

Here are just a few:
  • Grayland State Park in Grayland, WA, is a lovely place to camp, though it's quite popular.
  • The campground on Lake Crescent is at Log Cabin Resort at Olympic National Park and Forest
  • Lodgepole Campground in the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest is very nice.
  • Ohanapecosh Campground in Mount Rainier National Park is another great campground.
  • Iron Creek Campground in the Gifford Pinchot National Forest is one of my all-time favorites. Huge trees, easy access to Windy Ridge on Mount Saint Helens.
  • Canon Beach RV Resort is indeed a nice campground, well worth the visit.
  • Washington State parks web site is really very good. https://washington.goingtocamp.com/WashingtonStateParks
Have fun!

Consider joining the National organization WBCCI, attend several Rally week ends and find and join a local unit in your area--it has a way of accelerating your learning curve. Also be a frequent reader on the forum.

Congratulations! We just got ours a few weeks ago and it's frustrating not to be able to get out and use it. We're finally getting some warm weather so maybe our snow will melt and we can enjoy ours too.

In the meantime, read all the books that came with it, familiarize yourself with everything. Turn the heater on, sip some champagne in the driveway

Thanks for all the responses! What a great Airstream community...we will start taking pics and keep everyone updated. I know we will have tons of questions in the coming months so be prepared! My husband and I, in our recent past, lived aboard a small sailboat up in Alaska for 4 years. Have now traded the sea for land and a new chapter in our 60's! Look forward getting to "know" you all!
