I just came back from 3 weeks in Iceland and tomorrow I'm off to the California coast with my Airstream. Then at the end of October a Rally in Kernville. I love being retired!

Nice weekend

Great weekend at Cooper Lake SP TX

Still the best kept secret in Texas... great staff, rangers, nice campsites. Lake could use some more water but in general that's the story all across Texas this year.

Fiona the cocker did great on her first camping trip.. loved meeting some other canine campers

Discovered life expectancy of my outside water hose is about 40 months. I had put pressure regulator on my pre-trip list but didn't get to it but will definitely do so before the trip to Kentucky in October. Not that crazy about the mud that the pinhole leak left in the campsite.

And voice and data on our new Verizon Wireless plan at the park, so it appears at first blush, it was a good switch from our other carrier. Even had good strong signal INSIDE the AS.....

A weekend off for dog surgery, then it's off to Kentucky on the 10th for a week.

Just camp!

Well finally have some time to upload some pics from our Oct trip to Arkansas, Tennessee, North Carolina and Kentucky.

First day we made the long drive to Village Creek SP in Wynne, Ark. It's our go to half way to Bowling Green stop. A really nice park, two lakes, golf course and some nice level campsites as well as very clean restroom shower facilities its a bit of a longer drive than I usually like but we try to make sure we can get to Bowling Green where our son is on air local anchor for NPR All Things Considered on the public radio service of Western Kentucky University. Met a couple of fellow ASers who were full timing and headed to a volunteer gig on the Outer Banks barrier island

Second day we fueled up in Forest City, Ark and headed for Nashville. A note about Arkansas State Parks. W have camped at three n the past couple years and all have been great experiences

We drove to Seven Points COE on the east edge of Nashville. Great park nice sites although it appears that if you want one of the prime waterfront sites you may need to book 180 days in advance. Park was recommended by Deke at Weaselmouth blog

I full time, swapping between two or three local campgrounds because I'm not retired, but I too really enjoy those short trips on weekends. I doubt I'd do this while boondocking or in a state park, but some of the older more basic small campgrounds will let you leave an RV on site with the utilities turned off during the week at a reduced rate (as low as $5 per day here) and you can spend two or three weekends at one park without having to tow back and forth. Just a thought. A two or three hour tow isn't all that expensive, but getting organized to go is time consuming, so if the Airstream is set up waiting for you on site, you might save a lot of time getting to and from the destination.

We'll be going full time soon. Now that I fixed the wood in our floor, even though there is more things to upgrade/tweak/fix we decided to make it a point to camp at least once every month before we go full time. Although snow birds are making that incredibly difficult right now in Florida since peak season is Nov - April and these are our final months. We are planning a 4 night 5 day trip for Thanksgiving coming up.

And I'm back. Now where was I? On day 3 we had intended to go into Nashville proper and walk around, having been to Country Music HOF and Museum on last years trip but we decided to just hang out at the AS.

Day 4: Drove in rain all day over to Davy Crockett Birthplace SP just outside of Greenville TN

Campground at this SP is okay but once you see the Davy Crockett stuff. Not much else there except it's on the banks of the Nolichuckey River which while we were there was running deep and fast because of all the rain

Pictres here are from Davy Crockett
