Le Fleurs Bluff State Park
Check out Le Fleurs Bluff State Park, it is right in Jackson, just off I55.
We stayed there in the early spring a few years ago and found the location to be very convenient. This was our campsite, http://www.airforums.com/photos/showimage.php?i=16343&c=3289.

We stay in the Jackson on a regular basis. We always stay at the Springridge RV Park in Clinton, Mississippi. It is just west of Jackson in Hinds County. It is located two blocks south of I-20 at Exit 36. It is located in the middle of a nice mobile home park and each site has has five point hook-ups. They have baths and showers for he RV park that are first rate. We have always felt very safe there. They are listed on Woodalls. Their phone number is 601-924-0947.

Campgrounds
With the high water just receeding, Le Fleurs Bluff is gonna be kinda buggy right now. IMHO the nicest campground in the area is Timberlake on the shore of the Ross Barnett resorvior.
Will you be passing thru or lookin to stay?

Timberlake Campground
We stayed at Timberlake Campground on the Ross Barnett Reservoir, too! ! It was awesome, although we did experience a short, but LOUD hailstorm the two nights we were there. Luckily, no noticeable damage to our 'baby'. The facilities are excellent, and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay there. The Natchez Trace connects only a couple of miles from the park..... That is a beautiful, relaxing drive. Enjoy your trip.

I don't know the details but Timberlake does have long term lots. Some friends of ours said 'chuck it', sold the house and bought a 5'er. They full time there until the youngest graduates highschool. This campground is closest to the NE side of town, Madison and Ridgeland, Flowood and Brandon. We have stayed here even though it's only a few miles from our house.
Like Moosetags suggested, Springridge RV Park just off of i-20 in Clinton, Mississippi will get you toward the west side of town. Never stayed here.
Swinging Bridge RV park is just off of I-55 in Byram and will keep you close to the southern side of stuff. Never stayed here either.
Various other campgrounds will move you :30 further out in various directions.

...Sorry...It's called a White Castle Burger joint ...on the corner, you can step out on the street and see the Capitol Dome...And if you are traveling round ...checking out the Vicksburg National Park is a site to not soon be forgotten.

Made a trip to the Jackson area yesterday and visited MovieTown in Canton, Timberlake and Le Fleurs Bluff (trying to stay in the central to northern Jackson area). I think at this point I am leaning toward Timberlake, although they told me at the desk it is first come first served so I was unable to make a reservation. Thanks for all the feedback.
