Jackson Center Visit w/photos

We are at the Airstream Service Center for a reclining chair conversion, Seal Tech leak test, and Airstream 27 Point Inspection. Thought about about a disc brake conversion, it is $3,274.14 estimate parts and labor for 12" brakes on tandem axles.

Took the tour with Don Ambrose guiding (what a wonderful guy). Business is booming, building 51 Airstreams a week and have a backlog of 1,100 trailers. Here's some photos we took, posted on Flicker.

Awesome! Love Wally's gold one, the Bowlus and that funky new small one - what's that one??

Would also love to talk with you about the chair conversion. DW and I are thinking of visiting the mothership as a bucket list item, and while there to replace part of the couch with one recliner (next to the door) and a smaller table in the middle...

How's it going? Happy with the service? Are you able to stay in your own trailer on site?

Wally's trailer is newly painted, not anodized as original, and has GYM tires (WWWD). The funky little one is an Airstream Basecamp, many were made a few years ago but discontinued, probably too expensive. Collector's item soon.

There is no camping charge for those here for service, full hookups and good Wifi. They bring your trailer out each night to use, unless it's all tore apart or axles off. Our service starts tomorrow, will give a report and photos.

Doug,

$3274.14......are you still thinking.

I considered it several years ago when they first started using them.

Other things took precedent and never made the change. (Plus the Bank of Spouse wouldn't approve the loan.)
Don't really regret it.
Had a shoe problem that Dexter took care of N/C.
Other than that the shoes are KISS and pretty darn reliable if maintained properly.

Great Pic's!!!!

Thumbs up

Doug,

Your post got me remembering our visit in 1989 with the Safari.
We were on a trip to Minn for a water trial when the fridge gave up. Called JC, appt. made, arrived early next day, new fridge installed 7hrs later...GREAT service.

Thanks for the photos.

Boy, visiting JC is on my bucket list - even if I have to fly vs. trailer there.

I enjoyed the factory tour on a Thursday afternoon in October of 2012 while enroute to CanAm from Phoenix for a hitch reinforcement on my Mercedes ML 320 CDI I planned to use as our tow vehicle.....

I will spend time there from 9 to 15 January 2014 photographing the gestation of our 2014 Classic 30 from bare frame to completed trailer.

I was with a bunch of people the other night and the topic of bucket-list destinations came up.

Person A wanted to see the City of Lights - Paris!
Person B had a desire to hike Peru's Machu Piccu
Person C would love to take a Trans-Atlantic cruise

I pipped in with, "I really want to tour the Airstream Plant in Jackson Center, Ohio." They just didn't get it.

Amazing! A 5 to 6 month backlog? Glad I got mine on a modified pre order by my dealer within a month.

We ordered ours in July and specified the build week in January when I could be there to "watch" and photo the process. I will get to see where Airstream "hides" the necessary valves and electrical fittings and have photos to refer to when my built in memory storage unit drops a few bits of useful information due to "none use over time".

......"when my built in memory storage unit drops a few bits of useful information due to "none use over time".

The hardest part for me is figuring out what I need to forget to make room for what needs to be remembered.
