I've not been everywhere

But I could be if I followed this map.

That would be a pretty awesome trip. I wonder how many miles it is in total.

Anyone own stock in a gas company?

Do you know what a learning experience is? A learning experience is one of those things that says "You know that thing that you just did? Don't do that."

For one thing, it misses the Olympic Peninsula in Washington State. That is a gem just in itself.

And what about Northern Michigan?

I think the map layout gets you into seeing a lot of traffic?

I saw this map a few months ago and did a little reading on it. The creator basically picked out one or more points of interest in each of the 48 contiguous states, then ran an algorithm that chose an "optimal" route based upon mileage or driving time (I can't remember which). Some of the points of interest aren't all that interesting, or at least are less so than other points in the same state that weren't selected. The scenery and grades of the routes between points were not factors.

It was an interesting technical exercise (maybe for solving the travelling salesman problem?), but the results aren't something I'd personally plan a road trip around. Certainly not while towing a trailer. It might have some interesting ideas in terms of points of interest you've not considered, and possible routes.
