Quaker Meadows

Last weekend we were at a place east of Porterville, CA at 7000'. We got dusted with snow, the peaks got more as you can see in the photo. Look close in the other one and you'll find a fire lookout on the rocky peak - it's zoomed as close as the camera would go and I lost some quality.
This was originally a church camp started by the "Friends"? group (Quakers) but the now rent to lots of groups.

Red face I'm a little late....

But I got sick the last day of our weekend trip.

We took Moby on his shakedown cruise to our WBCCI unit's fall rally at Lyndon Kansas last weekend. Due to the fact that I didn't have any input into the "where" of the rally, we were in an RV park. The park was clean and reasonable, but many of the sites were contacted for the summer to various construction workers. Consequently, it wasn't the quietest place in the state.

Just down the road about 5 miles was Melvern Lake, which we will be taking a trip to next year. After our visit one early morning, we decided that there will be very few RV parks for us.

We were just excited to have Moby on the road after three years of work and I think would have just parked in a Walmart parking lot for a couple days just to see if everything worked!! and it did!!

Can't wait til next spring.... and... just 17 months and 2 days to retirment!!

Didn't camp last weekend as I took a friend down to visit Gene's stable of Streams. However, the week prior we went to Mountain View, Arkansas for a little bluegrass music. Campground (Ozark RV-fairly close to the town square) was a nice place to stay but nothing extra. The atmosphere of the town, however, was really neat to experience. Apparently, every Friday & Saturday night from "when it warms up" to "when it gets too cold" musicians from all over converge on the town square. They are little groups set up all over the square and down the side streets. The town of about 2500 in the Ozark Mountains swells to three or four times that on some weekends. A real friendly atmosphere with people from so many different walks of life "just getting along and having a good time". There apparently is a lot of other things to do in the area, ie. canoeing, fishing, hiking and just sightseeing. Give yourself a little time to get there, as there is no easy way. However, in my opinion, definitely worth the effort.

Just got back from

....a little state park around the corner from Airhog, Village Creek. Stayed in the newly renovated full hook-up section for $27 + tax per night. All concrete pads and paved roads. Small lake and some things for the kids to do. Active Rangers. Very nice place about 11 miles off of I-40. Skeeters were a little tough and spiders dropped out of the trees a couple of times but we managed. Very nice place.

Thanks for the walk down memory lane, Debbie, Pat and Georgia.
Stayed in one of those lakeside sites last May...yep, great access to the city of Nashville!

Fun thread!

It's Monday . . .

And I'm back from Harrison Bay State Park, Tennessee. Close to home but a great quick get-away. Had mostly much needed solitude Tuesday when I pulled in, but by Friday I was surrounded by white boxes.

The sunrises and sunsets were priceless. As were the geese trying to blend in with the flamingos . . . . or were the flamingos trying to blend in with the geese????

It's Tuesday and we just got back from a three-day weekend in the Laurel Highlands of Western PA. We visited Ligonier (toured the fort), Latrobe (home of Arnold Palmer and birthplace of Mr. Rogers) as well as toured Fallingwater and the Frank Lloyd Wright house on Kentuck Knob. Weather was beautiful, AS towed like a dream - even in the construction on the PA pike!

Sadly, this coming weekend is WW - winterizing weekend - campgrounds up north here are closing for the winter and I don't want to tow through salty roads for weekend trips.
