Big Lagoon State Park, Pensacola Fl for a 4 day run. We just returned last night. It rained every afternoon, sometimes severe, and in the words of Robert Earl Keen it was "Hotter than a furnace fan"

Hi Ho,

I have a friend that will be going to Pensacola on Saturday for a week.

He hopes it won't be that hot! HA!

And by the way...what kind of towing capacity does your scooter have and what kind of hitch system do you use with that thing to pull your Silver RV???

Spent the weekend in Steinhatchee, Florida. Friends have a riverfront lot there with 3 RV hookups. We went scalloping. Limited out and ate them and some grouper for dinner Saturday night.
Forgot my SD card at work or I would have posted some pics. Will try later.

Another soggy weekend in New England...
Brian (moosetags) would be proud; saw a female up close and heard another splashing through the bog, saw some beaver playing also. A good weekend for wildlife, paddling, and hiking...wish the sun would come back!

It's Monday and I just got back from...

Finding lucky number 7... after a tip from a fellow air forums member we went to check out a trailer with a broken tongue - not knowing what to expect but because it was only 15 miles away we couldn't resist checking it out. Turns out it is the same one our Schwan's man was telling us about- and it did indeed have a broken tongue. We have a friend with a welding truck and he is going to help us re-enforce the frame so we can tow her home. It is a '55 Cruiser and is in pretty amazing shape - despite the tongue. For full pictures- visit the website and click on '55 Cruiser- but here are just a few shots.

Yup..

Escape the mayhem of Houston, we went to the Texas Hill country. Weather was awesome, lows around 55 and highs only in the low 80's.

Had to come home.....bummer.

I Did! I went to the Tin Can Tourist's Fall Campout with Laura (Airedale) at Camp Dearborn in Milford Michigan. We had a stellar time!

I saw David Winick and his custom 1950 Flying Cloud for Bob Wheeler, now for sale... if only I could... AHHHH that is THE most beautiful and stunning 13 panel mirror finish interiors I have ever seen! The reflections were delightful. He even has the midrange and tweeter speakers separated and 12" subwoofer all intregrally installed and the music bathes you in an audio panacea, contrasting linoleum Airstream insert at the entrance step, stunning workmanship and materials. If you liked the 75th anniversary editions you would literally stop dead in your tracks and never want to leave this one!

I saw the one of a kind vintage Airstream custom made with opening end windows that resembles the Curtis Wright trailers. I saw and learned about so many unique trailers, such as an aqua car that was matched to a prototype trailer, the Minnow. Cool stuff...the entire rally, people and trailers and motorhomes and buses and tear drops were very cool and appointed with all manner of vintage accents. There was an ugly sweater contest and a can-delabra contest that lit up the tent with wonderful "can" lighting, and a dance and camp fire. A spontaneous performance broke out of Tina Turner's Rolling on the River by some women who really put their all into it, quite good actually and sooo much fun to watch. Laura and I went geocaching. About all we didn't get to do is sleep enough.

I think we shall do the annual rally again in spring. Good time. And thank you Laura.

Two weeks and counting and we shall be in the UP starting off with the Mackinaw City Forums Rally and tour North from there to catch the autumn colors around the Great Lakes.

Assateague State Park

Assateague Island State Park (in Maryland). Our usual September long weekend trip. Had a great time, but it was rather windy, as might be expected this time of the year. The wind finally died down Sat. Eve and I had a nice bike ride on my Bacchetta Ajio recumbent bike.

That bike is perfect for cruising at the beach. My wife and daughter both tried it and now they want recumbents. I always thought they were kind of dorky looking, but every kid I ride by pretty says cool! wow! or "nice bike". I get a lot of surprising postive comments from adults too. Serious Diamond fram riders generally ignore me, hope their comfortable . I can say that as I do still ride a DF for mountain biking, but no more on the street. The recumbent is FAST, COMFORTABLE and FUN. But to each their own.

We stay at the state park when it is open for the electric hookups. But we actually prefer the Federal Park. It has limited facilities (cold showers, pit toilets) but we don't care because that is why we RV! The Federal park seems more "natural" and the sites less like parking spaces. Because most of Assateague is Federal property ( the State Park has a small carved out niche) it has more things to do, several nature trails, bayside campsites if you prefer, canoe/kayak rentals and launching. You can also get a permit to drive on the beach. Very popular with the truck camper fishermen.

Both parks have nice beaches, although they have taken a bit of a beating since our spring trips. We don't visit in the summer because of crowds and bugs. Sat up on the beach and listened/watched the surf a good bit. Some of the time with my ipod. I like to listen to The Who singing "Bell Boy", perfect...."the beach is a place where a man can feel he's the only soul in the world that's real...". Other times, Hendrix singing "Castles Made Of Sand". Pat Metheny's a big beach fav of mine. Especially the "Secret Story" and "Still Life Talking" albums. Perfect beach music to me!

My biggest beef with the State Park is that they run you out at 11am (why I don't know, as you can't check in 'til 2pm). Makes for a bit of a hustle on Sunday a.m. plus a jam up at the dump station. We even had the constabulary stop by about about 10:30 to make sure we were going to vamoose. I guess he didn't like the way I was lounging in my Faux-lafuma chair. I said yep we will be leaving and we did, right on the dot at 11am. We dumped and then headed down to the Federal Park to spend a few more hours (I always purchase a seasons pass).

We generally avoid close by Ocean City, MD, but sometimes (like last Friday) my 12 year old daughter prevails and we venture up 10 miles north to ticky tacky land. This weekend was Sunfest weekend, basically a craft fair with music. Not my cup of tea, even though it was free. I was good for about 5 minutes (literally). Had to use one of my "dad vetos" to get us out of there! Too much country cutsie poo type crafts for me and also too many people. Oh well, to each their own. We did let our daughter spend some time in the arcades on the boardwalk, she enjoys playing th games. I sat on a bench on the boardwalk waiting for the girls, with the rest of the old farts. Then we Visited the coast guard station gift shop at the south end of the boardwalk (at the inlet) and purchased a cool book on O.C. postcards throughout history. That was worth the trip to town.

Two Airstreams at Assateague State Park. A newer International (I think) about a 22' and an older, maybe early 90's Excella, 25' or so. If the economy picks up and I feel better about my job etc. There may be a third there next year .

Cheers
