Thanks Gene. We did not let the bad campground experience ruin our holiday. We had a great time. The Safari we purchased from Airstream of Arkansas in July is performing extremely well. We love our unit and it fits us to a tee.

There is one nice thing about a bad campground. It causes us to appreciate more fully the good ones and hopefully it also gives us the extra motivation to let the good ones know how we feel and how much we appreciate their effort to keep it that way. There are sadly a lot of campers out there who think nothing of making a huge mess of a great camp ground. Keeping them in pristine shape shows the commitment of the owners or operators and is not for the faint of heart.

The other thought that comes to mind is that at least with a bad campground you are still in a great RV, you know the beds, bathroom, floors etc are all up to your own standards. Not the same with a bad motel/hotel room. Ugh - I've had a few of those in my travels and until you find a good one to hit the shower you feel gritty all day.

We didn't take the trailer, but we traveled to the rim area of AZ Sunday to do a little hunting. Look at the trophy we bagged!

What day is it?

Ok, I know it's not Monday yet but I'm being proactive...
but on on Monday we will have gotten back from Christmas in New Orleans. The West New Orleans KOA is not exactly our style, but it's clean and easly to get too. This is our first Christmas away from home but it's been a good one. Record high temps of 80 degrees made for a nice time walking the French Quarter. Although I've been down here a couple of times helping during/after the past two hurricanes I really didn't get to see how the place has rebounded fro Katrina. Well I'm happy to report things are well and the Good Times are Rolling.
The ride down here has convinced me one thing - the roughest roads in the USA I have traveled on are the LA interstate highways. Even with new axles, all of the clothes hanging in the closet are tossed to the floor.

Here's a photo of the campground - we are the 2nd smallest camper, see if you can spot us

It's spring so it's time to wake up this thread...

It's Monday a we just got back from a quick trip to Vicksburg. We camped at the Ameristar Casino RV Park for $22.50/night

The park is easy on/off of I-20 at the Vicksburg visitor center exit. The sites are all pull thru and pretty small but it's clean, the hosts are great, the pool is warm and clean and it come with two free breakfast buffet coupons at the casino. If ya' tend toenjoy a game of chance, get a players card and it doesn't take much to get the site fee comped!

Arrive early or call ahead, it filled up Friday and Saturday night.

Sunday morning we went downtown to the water front and saw the new murials painted on the leeve walls, worth the short ride. It also gave us the chance to see some of the neat old brick homes on the bluff.

Smile Long Time Away...

I just got back from a "One Week" trip to a project in Italy. I left on January 24th, and returned yesterday. Ummm...I do believe there's a time zone difference, but that sure seems longer than a week.

Pulled into the office parking lot this morning and the old airstream is still sitting there waiting for me.

Heading out in a couple of weeks for a Spring shake down trip.

The Long Cold and Rainy Trip

Just returned from our 13 day trip that included the states of Mississippi, Tennessee, Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Ohio and Missouri. Encountered bitter cold, snow, rain and ice and made a two day stop at Jackson Center for some warranty work. The 25' Safari performed extremely well in a variety of conditions.

The attached pictures were taken at a campground in northern Maryland at the Pennsylvania line. The SOB burned the night before we got there. We never found out the cause. I don't believe anyone was hurt, but it is a good reminder of what fire can do to a camper. Be safe out there particularly when using furnaces and space heaters. Click image for larger version

We are recuperating from the Nor. Cal. Casini Ranch Rally. What a great time with some awesome people. Some are still there. The rest of us had to come back to the humdrum life of work.

Last week was Spring Break in Atlanta and we took the boys to Tallulah Gorge for the break. We got pounded Friday by some of the heaviest rains I've experienced in our Airstream. I was soooo happy that I had packed and set up the satellite dish. There were lots of "searching for signal" screens, but for the heaviest rain times there was the DVD player and about four or five new DVDs my wife had picked up on sale at Wal-Mart the week before. We Airstreamers do travel well!

We were lucky enough to be there Saturday when they released a lot of water from the dam and they allowed kayakers to go down the river. We hiked out to one of the overlooks and watched them go over some of the falls. My eight year old decided he can't wait 'till he can take up kayaking. My 12 year old just yawned.

There was another Airstream from Illinois at the campground, but I never could catch them at their site to go meet them. We did see a really cool "Palm Beach" mid-70's GMC motor home a couple of sites over from us.

Spent a long weekend at Page Springs, Az. Lots of things to do there and it has to be one of the best kept secrets in Arizona.

It's not Monday any more, but we just got back from a week at Grayton Beach State Park. It was too hot to get out and do much during the middle of the day, but the beach is absolutely beautiful and I highly recommend the State Park.

They are currently constructing a new section of the camp ground that will include sewer hook-ups and should be open sometime within the next six months or so. The disadvantage to the full hook-up sites is that there is very little vegetation to provide shade and no screening from the site next door. The existing camp sites are very lushly filled in so there is a good bit of privacy...provided you aren't in one of the sites with a trail to the bathhouse running right in front of you.

It's still Monday, so I can say we just returned from 10 or 12 days in Hamilton, TX trying to be of some help to our fellow Airstreamer Gayland Stephens, who has been diagnosed with pacreatic cancer. There just may be a light at the end of the tunnel, but as days drag by it gets harder & harder to try to stay hopeful & upbeat. Our Airstream provided not only a comfortable nights sleep tho. We also used the trailer to get away from their house while new flooring was being layed, and again when their AC went on the Fritz while it was close to 100 outside. I'm sure glad we took the trailer.

Airstreams ~ Great in the good times. Perfect in the less than good times too.

...5 days on...

...the Crooked River, OR. It was a twofold trip, 1. motorcycle riding on the trails of the Millican OHV park and 2. flyfishing on the Crooked River.

It's all BLM administered, clean and uncrowded. 20 miles south of Prineville, 25 miles east of Bend. The river comes out of the Prineville Reservoir, runs through a rim-rock canyon with some spectacular basalt formations and runs into the farming area south of Prineville.

It doesn't get much better than this.

Rafting

Just returned from a weekend trip to the Nantahala Forest where we found a very nice campground able to accommodate a 31 footer. The name is Nelson's Nantahala Campground (www.nantahalcampground.com). Nice folks, nice campground, great scenery! Went rafting on the river and did some sightseeing in the mountains. Beautiful weekend!
