It's Monday and we're just back from winter camping - panhandle style. Can Opener at Topsail. Completely awesome.

Mays Lake Campground, inside the Jackson city limits. Not much to say other than it rained and was a mess.
Not a "destination", just a "location"

We went to High Falls State Park, GA near Jackson GA. It was very nice. We walked trails and rented a canoe and toodled around the lake for a few hours.

There IS some water in GA!

WHAAAAAA!!!! So ready for a trip I can taste it. Yes we have been driveway camping, yup DH has retired to the Silver Wing as we speak, food for microwave, wine in hand, and the newspaper and music to envelope him. Of course it's snowing here with plenty of ice from the past couple of days underneath, now if I could just persuade Sky Med to extend their benefits to reloaction of Airstreams it would be RX for the soul.

...Canoeing the Ichetucknee River in Ft. White Florida. Family and friends. Stayed at the Ichetucknee Family Canoe & Cabins campgrounds. 386-497-2150.
Rates are $21.50 per night.

We have been there before and it is a lovely place. Vernis and Elaine (the owners) are really nice people and I always feel so at home there. The river was stunning and the weather was beautiful. Our son spent one afternoon catching baby snapping turtles at "Blue Hole". Lots of campfires and s'mores too. That's a terrific part of Florida and a great place to spend some time. They have full hookups under a canopy of trees, a central bath house and a really great little convience store.

It's nice to see some of you are getting out and enjoying nature in your trailers.

Cedar Hill SP - Texas

Hey - Great thread. Don't know how I have missed it until now...

We went to Cedar Hill SP this past weekend. It is the fourth time we have been there this year. The second weekend in a row with our new Airstream. Two earlier times in our old SOB. It is nice to be there since it feels like you are "away from home and work" and "camping" but it is very close to plenty of shopping. We are finding that we want or need quite a few things to enhance our enjoyment of the new trailer. We are "moving in" so to speak. It seems like we head to the store at least once a day for some small thing.

The park is one of the larger ones in the TX state park system with nearly 350 camp sites. With it's close proximity to the Dallas - Ft. Worth metro area, it is pretty popular.

Sites in the park are a mixed bag. If you go there, take a look around before selecting a site if you can. There is a WIDE variety of configurations. Most of the sites are fairly heavily wooded with plenty of shade. Parking areas range from way too short for a travel trailer to 80 foot long level pads of concrete that are 30 feet wide. Most sites are water / electric only but a few on the north end of the park are full hook-ups.

As for activities, Cedar Hill state park has one of nicest networks of mountain bike trails in the area. The trail system is maintained by volunteers from DORBA (Dallas Off Road Bicycle Association I think). There is also a reasonably good network of short hiking trails for day hikes. Nothing very extreme, but a nice walk in the north Texas woods. Another hugely popular activity in the park is boating and fishing on Joe Pool lake. The park has one of the larger marinas on the lake as well. Bank fishing is certainly possible. Not a whole lot of action this time of year though as the water is warming up quickly. The land for the park was originally part of Penn farm. Several buildings from the farm have been restored and are maintained for folks to get a look at what farming was like in this area in the past.

Had a good time but no pics . Maybe next time.

Bisbee Arizona

We went to Bisbee Arizona over the weekend to escape some of the heat here in Phoenix. The weather was a little cooler in the 90s. We used the new AC unit for the first time and it worked well. We stayed at our favorite place in Bisbee, The Shady Dell. Bisbee is a pretty cool town located in south east Arizona not far from the Mexico border. The town is located on the side of a mountain and is a copper mining town. In fact we learned that they were openining a new mine since copper has hit the $4.00 per pound mark, it is profitable to mine there again. Here are a few pictures from the trip.

Well, I'm not back...

But I am still sitting at the site of the 4CU rally. I had a great time meeting folks and camping. WOOOWEEE can some of these folks cook! I guess I better pull up stakes and move on this morning.
