If, by referring to "resorts", you mean the parking lot behind the tire store, you're dead on!

Had to laugh a little about the Bounder MH. My first camping consists of a pop-up. Seems all the other campers swarm to my site and leave their $500,000 rigs. I still remember two of these campers in awe that the Bounder sets up by pushing one button and they were complaining that they had to push two buttons. You can imagine my response about all the cranking I had to do. Sometimes it is not the campers, but is the persons themselves.

Interestingly, we find that even the guys in the big ol' motor homes are still intrigued with Airstreams...we get it all the time in campgrounds...unless they are just totally self-absorbed, of course. (We've run across a few of those, too.) Some have even looked longingly at our Bambi and wish they could downsize a little (or a lot).

Actually, these folks did you a favor, and me too. Why would I even want to spend time with them? I think hell is going to be a lot like the resort you mentioned here. And they are welcomed to it!

I agree with MoJo 100%!! It brings to mind when my 2001 AS was about 1 month old and I was parked between two 40' MH's in a CG in Estes Park, Colorado. Once I got settled in, one of my neighbors came over and said "WOW, that's the cleanest looking old AS I ever saw!" I said "Thats because it's about a month old!" He came back with "Gosh, I did'nt even know they still made those old things!" From then on, I steer away from places that cater to those big rigs! State Parks an NP's whenever and wherever possible for me!

I spent a week in our 19' International parked between two giant new 5th wheelers. We didn't see the folks on either side for the first two days. When we did see them, they seemed awfully stand-offish. It took a few more days but we finally got to talk to both couples. I'm no psychiatrist, but it's clear that both couples were dealing with serious depression. Now I have a theory: when folks pull into a campground and don't show their faces, it's because they've got issues that go beyond the type of MH or RV they pick.

Often we are so busy we don't talk to people in other RV's, and maybe we are depressed, but we are busy and depressed. I think a lot of people don't know how to start a conversation or are busy. If we see someone outside, we'll say hello and continue to hook up or unhook. Maybe they'll be gone when we finish. Maybe we're hungry and it's time to go inside.
Maybe I have to check e-mail, look up places on the internet for tomorrow, make reservations, check the maps, etc. Maybe that prevents contact with others.
Of course we have seen RV's where we never see the occupants, or only see them fleetingly. Maybe they are busy too.
I think if you are the type that stays at a campground for a while, puts out the rug, chairs, and such, then sits outside, you are more likely to meet people.

Re the cost or newness of a rig, a friend observed "It can cost a million bucks, but they STILL have to handle the sewer hose."

Don't judge a book by it's cover
A few years ago we were at a campgriound in Nova Scotia and had 2 twin 40' deisel pushers parked beside us . While checking on things outside struck up a conversation with my neighbor . Turns out he worked for Airstream back in '76 and probably helped build my unt . For about an hour and a half we talked AS over a brew . You never know .

It doesn't bother me that certain luxe RV parks don't want older trailers because they don't all wear as well as Airstreams. A/S are in a class by themselves whether new or old and imho would grace any campground which their owners choose to access.
Seriously, though, if there are parks requiring a certain type of rig, they are welcome to it.

I do not see any real problem with the policy. It is not really discrimination. Anybody of any race, creed, or religion can buy a new motorhome. It is not really like a resturant refusing to serve some because they are "ugly". Do I like the policy? No. But I think they have a right to it. As long as it is not created to impose some other form of discrimination. We had an airstream rally in a local campground that had a policy that said they "could refuse any rig over 10 years old". Did not mean they would. They let all of us in, several units from the 1970's.

The only problem these "resorts" will have is keeping them full. The fancy one they built in Gulf Shores right on the Gulf was snooty and vacant for 2 winters now it is for sale. Rvers dont want to pay the huge fees. As soon as it is not profitable to keep out vintage trailers they will let us in. The RV Park in the French Quarter of New Orleans started out as the snooty MH park only and now anyone who has the cash can stay there. it is all about the money as usual.

How 'bout (courtesy of the Mamas & Papas), "Go where you wanna go, do what you wanna do, with whoever . . ."
OK - it's dated but then, I have no popular culture at all.

Some of the 'snooty' RV parks are owner-occupied. Each site is owned by an individual. There is a beautiful site for sale at the Pacific Shores RV Resort in Oregon for $149k. It has a gorgeous ocean view. There are other sites for sale there for $74k which don't have the view and they are plentiful. I'm thinking that if somebody springs for that kind of spot, they won't want an antique pop-up tent for a neighbor.

These are like gated communities. Many people don't like people who they perceive as different from them. They like gates, fences, 10-year-rules, ideological purity, dress codes, uniformity, etc.
Maybe it's best they keep to themselves as they are the ones inside the fences and shouldn't come out of their compounds.

With all the beautiful State Parks we have here in Florida, I don't know why anyone would want to stay in a resort. My wife & I stay only at State Parks and love it. My first order of duty when I arrive is to look up all the classic TTs and MHs. I know these are people I want to meet.
