We get the KOA Kard - usually we at least break even. Some KOA's are nice and fun to stay at. Others have you stacked in like it's an RV storage lot. So, you have to read reviews and use your judgement as to which ones you patronize, but overall the card seems worth having, especially when on those long road trips where you just need an overnight, and one of the "journey" level campgrounds is right where you need one to be. (We don't camp at WalMart, etc., preferring KOA over those locations. To each their own - if you like boondocking at WalMart or whatever, that's fine with us, it's just not our thing.)

We have the KOA card and often use it on the way to or from our destination... For us, KOA is not our destination, but an easy stop along the way. For us it has paid for itself. And it's nice to apply our reward points to a stay for and even better deal here and there.

We use it a lot, and between the points and 10% savings, we save big bucks. We've spent many free nights in KOAs. It's well worth the $30 if you stay at KOAs 5-7 nites each year.

I use my card often enough to make it wortwhile. Sometimes a KOA is the only decent facility in the area we choose to stay. I have never really been in one that was overrun with children. I don't use much of the amenities either.

Love KOA
We have been KOA members for several years. As others have said, ease of booking is a benefit. I book from an app. Quick and easy as my info is in the KOA system. For our spring trip to Florida, we are saving about $30 dollars so it will pay for itself first time out this year. I also like the consistency in the properties when traveling so far from home one night at a time. They take dogs and do not charge for them. Full hook ups and pull throughs are typically available. There are KOAs near big cities without being in the city. For convenience its a home run.

It is really a matter of personal preference. I have found that KOAs to generally be more expensive than other campgrounds so we generally do not stay at them unless we really need to. I would rather stay at a state park or city park that have camping facilities.

KOA’s will generally be more expensive than a public CG, but if you need WiFi and cable, they are predictably good.
Generally preferring to spend less, do more, KOA’s are the exception for us, rather than the rule.

I agree, Walmart is our last resort. One above that, was when we had to stay at a Cracker Barrel over night.

It does, but you pay for the value card, then get a 10% discount on a high priced CG.
It depends on what you want and need.

I have stayed at 3 and 2 were a disaster. I was ushered int 2 of them and 1 was so close I couldn't use the fire pit to cook as it was too close to the next guy. The second, i was filling fresh water when I noticed my fill hose was discolored. I was filling with mud as they had NOT flushed the lines. I notified the desk and they had me move to flush the tank and lines. It was next to check in for dump and water. They demanded I move as I was blocking entry. I did not and was asked to leave with only partial refund. I contacted corporate, but NO reply.
I now bypass them.

Even if I had a discount card for KOA the price is higher than other parks in my experience. Therefore I try to avoid them.

For us, the KOA is a pretty predictable experience and it’s super easy to book sites. Even with the All Stays App, I find it helpful to book sites ahead when we’re enroute. We’ve actually used KOA’s as destinations a couple of times -- one in Mount Rushmore which had everything including horseback riding! (And prices to match.) So, we do the Kard.

Yes.
Some are clean, some aren’t. Just like the Hyatt Place hotels I stay at while traveling for business.
Sometimes I find outstanding ones.
Perhaps there should be a forum capability just to post these good ones.
For example, Travelers Rest NC is beautiful, clean, on a stream and nothing like the attempted Disneyland one I was at in Portland.

It has been for us. We hit a KOA on our way to and from destinations.
They have known amenities and quality. Easy in and out.
If you do not plan on using them much it won’t be worth it.
