Is 2-ply toilet paper a must use?

Is 2-ply toilet paper a must and has anyone ever installed a bidet toilet seat in an airstream?

It is important to select the right toilet paper when using a RV septic system, or the black tank. Airstreamers have had problems with undissolved paper getting stuck in the dump valve causing leaks. Basically you want a toilet paper that will "pulverize" when soaked. Put some in a glass jar, let it sit for an hour or so, then shake the jar. The paper ought to dissolve.

Charmin Basic is one of those tissues. A Kleenex is not Baby Wipes are not either. RV places sell special toilet paper that dissolves, but it is more expensive.

Search Air Forums via Google and find several threads on the right toilet paper and the problems the wrong stuff can cause.

Personally I am not too particular. There is a special tp for septic tanks that is fast dissolving. You can probably get it at a rv store.

You should ONLY use TP which is designated for RV or Marine toilets. It is usually single ply, and the wood pulp used is designed to break down easily. Even Scott single ply does not fit the bill IMO (unless they make an RV version of which I am unaware). [edit see MacPDX correction]

"Can" [ intended ] you get away with using something close, just to save some money? Sure, but when you are cleaning out a sewer clog someday because the TP did not dissolve right, please remember the day you decided to save a few pennies per wipe !!!

So far (2 years) we have managed to avoid going #2 in our AS. This was advised to me by an old RV hand when I first got the AS. I think it has made the atmosphere much more pleasant inside, the dumping of the black waste less "black", and much reduced the use of TP. Either there is a campground toilet, or a convenient tree and a GI shovel/hoe to bury the evidence.

Charmin 2 ply Ultra Soft is our choice. We use plenty of water in the black water tank and the drop in deals that dissolve solids. We only use septic system safe toilet paper.

"septic system safe" is not the same as "designed for RV and Marine toilets" IMO.

I've never ever bought a roll of special toilet paper, never will. Just regular TP.

I've not had a stopped up sewer tank, pipe, etc. Been more than more than 20 years Airstreaming.

If toilet paper is causing a problem, it is because not enough water is being put into the tank.

Me either. In over 30 years of camping, never had a clog.

I'm not towing around a 4 ton trailer and using public bathrooms because I'm afraid to use the head. And no, my trailer does not smell like @#$%.

Sorry, but that is about as nuts as using sleeping bags instead of high end sheets and a decent wool blanket.

Oh, yes, another vote for Scotts one ply RV TP. Does the job pretty well for a one ply and so far no clogs.

Septic safe paper user here simply because it is what I use at home. I always add water before a trip and top it off before dumping. Never had a issue.

I can't imagine having a toilet and trying to not use it in favor of squatting over a hole.
