Indianapolis camp sites
We are looking to do a trip to Indianapolis at spring break. Any recommendations on a camp site in the area? Looks like there are several that would work. Probably some race fans out there that have stayed in the area? Thanks.

KOA east of town, I 70 and Mt Comfort Rd. Two private places, Indy Lakes and Lake Haven Retreat, both offer full hook up sites, but not much else. Hamilton County, northeast of the city, has White River Park, with full, electric, and electric w water sites. A little farther out are state parks. Summit Lake, Lieberman SRA, Mounds (near Anderson). There are others within an hour drive, private and county, but I have no experience with them.

I've heard that White River State Park is nice. If you want to go 1 hour north of Indy, check out Prophetstown State Park in West Lafayette.

You can camp at the Indiana State Fairgrounds. My son and I camped there, with full hook-ups, during the Indy MotoGP a few years ago, when we were track marshals. We rode our motorcycles back and forth to the Speedway each day, and at night we just walked over to the flat track to watch the races there.

We stayed at Lake Haven Retreat for a couple weeks while my wife did genealogy research at the state library. It was clean, owners live on site, they were very friendly and helpful. The location is very convenient to downtown Indy as well as other locations. We will stay there again whenever we're in the area. We had stayed at the state fairgrounds on a prior stay, and it really is minimalist. We would not stay there unless we couldn't get in elsewhere.

Indianapolis camp sites
Unless I missed something, White River STATE park, downtown Indy, has no camping. This is a day use, concert events, etc, park. White River COUNTY park in Hamilton County does have camping, and is the one I was referencing in my earlier post. The State Fairgrounds has camping, but the neighborhood surrounding the fairgrounds has had way more mentions in the crime beat news than I care for, so I did not mention it.
