In Search of a Patio Mat that Does Not Melt

I have recently gone through two door mats and two patio mats due to reflection melting. Yes, I should have remembered to NOT leave the door-in-door open on a sunny day, where the sun was magnified to a point to melt the mats.
I am looking for recommendations for both a outside door mat and a patio mat that are fire/mely proof. Any suggestions?

I have no recommendations for a fire/melt proof mat. We have the same problems here in Florida especially at the vintage trailer rallies. This is our rally attire on sunny days.

Yes, this question is a true question. No Brag, just a fact when the concaved door is opened. I was wondering if anyone has purchased a fire proof or Bar-B-Q type mat for their use. I truly have melted 4 mats, 2 small entrance mats for wiping off your shoes and two patio mats. Any other suggestions besides aluminum mats and Haz M,at Suits???

It sounded so much more complementary in my head....no insult intended....I was complementing the mirror like finish...the irony is how bad I am at irony.....

At any rate - I saw an entry way mat made from recycled fire hoses at a very swanky tourist trap store in the Berkshires. Not big enough to be an outdoor carpet but I wonder if something like that is a possibility?

The entry mat was over $150 so a full outdoor carpet might me a small fortune, but you'd probably never need to replace it....

I also recall having some waxed canvas tarp years ago (loved the smell of that!) and wonder if something like that would work?

StevieB I do apologize for my posted comments. I did not grasp the seriousness of your question. I guess it might have roots from the running joke that I have heard for years about starting fires while traveling down the road when pulling an Airstream.

Several years ago we stopped deploying a mat due to the difficulties in keeping it clean. In its place I constructed a folding deck made from 1x4 pressure treated pine. When folded out it measures 50” x36”(25”x36” folded)We have found that it works quite well and frequently only use it with no patio rug. We also place on the deck, a boot scraper/brush for cleaning our shoes. I will post a picture of it as soon as I can get a good shot of it.

I don't know about durability, but a strung-together rolled up wood mat might be pretty nice. There may be a source for larger sizes than this shower mat.

Check "tire link door mats" on Amazon or Google. Old fashioned but very durable and practical. They fold up into quite a small package. A picture is below.

I have ends curl up from heat of sun when placed on brick walk way by door causing tripping then stay curled, but they are very durable.

I haven't tried this myself, but if it can catch sparks from a wood stove, you'd think it will stand up to a vintage airstream

Come to think of it.... another approach might be to find some sort of clear-ish easy peel stick on material to put on the inside of the door. That would diffuse the reflection but still be easy to remove when you want your girl looking her best.

The inside of our door has a bunch of travel stickers showing where Raggedy Ann has been (all before our time), so we don't have the same problem.

In there ad states will char when exposed to high heat. My suggestion try a sisal type of door mat, I don't no if would burn or not but I now use in sun.

Worst case, you can fab up plumbing like racers use in a cool suit to keep bare feet safe. However, treating the root cause, as suggested above, by difusing the shiny surface seems most viable. Riv-nuts and shiny thumb screws to hold the sunbrella in place, might help. A panel of nomex would be a fantastic marketing ploy for your polishing skills.

As I previously posted, we use this in place of a mat. Easy to clean and folds up and is placed in back of the truck when packing up. Also provides a good surface to stand with bear feet.
