I'm Past Hope but before Hell's Gate

The subject of this thread is a local joke that people from around here tell people when they are asked where they're from! We're just outside the town of Hope, BC and a little before the attraction aptly named Hell's Gate that was made famous by the Gold Rush in BC in the 1850's.

We're camping in our 29' 1987 Argosy on Kawkawa Lake. My parents are here too on the maiden voyage of their 2012 19' Escape. Nice little unit, kinda like a Boler.

Lots of kids here, & my boys have been swimming in the lake already. A game of baseball broke out on the road in front of our trailer with about 10 kids playing after supper.

So relaxing up here, and whatever our neighbours are cooking sure smells good! We had bbq chicken, asparagus, potato salad & buns for supper then had some rhubarb platz after playing a game of Tile Rummy. Camping is so good for the soul. It heals the heart.

Went back down to the dock at the lake after the Tile Rummy game. Numerous kids were dangling fishing poles in the lake off the dock and collecting their catches in a tiny plastic toy wheelbarrow filled up with lake water. A friendly moustached fellow who has a spot up here year round offered my oldest son an extra rod and he quickly put it to good use adding 3 small prisoners to the plastic prison.

My dad mosied down to the lake and told us he might have a rod socked away somewhere in one of his storage bins. He actually found a sparsely stocked tackle box along with his rod and three generations of fishermen spent the next hour and a half spin casting off the dock. We came back empty handed, but my boys came back with minds and hearts full of memories that they will always remember. We saw many bats skimming the lake hunting for bugs as the light faded.

Luke, my youngest, is fading fast and has decided to turn in with a belly full of campfire roasted hot dogs. Hopefully the laughter erupting from our game of Skipbo at the picnic table doesn't keep him up.

Luke has asked me for a bedtime story; Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. A perfect end to a beautiful day in beautiful British Columbia.
