Silvery Moon, I read the reviews, thanks for sharing. But it seems most of those reviews are referring to the cabins. We're not planning on staying at the cabins. Our plan is to stay in our own trailer at an RV site.

I can't seem to find pictures or reviews of the RV sites.

Has anybody stayed there?

If you live in the Pacific Northwest

There are at least two reviews of the RV sites. Here's one, which I wrote after staying there.

http://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowUserR...ashington.html

Here's the text of the review in case the link goes wonky:

"We had a wonderful long weekend camping at Log Cabin Resort in our Airstream. The lakeside location is absolutely idyllic. Lake Crescent itself is amazingly beautiful.

The lodge is rustic, but pleasant. The staff are very nice and helpful. The campground is well set-up, with full hook-ups at every RV site (30 amps, water, sewer). It's a small campground with a limited number of sites overall, a few sites that handle rigs up to up to 35 feet, and even a few tent sites. There were a couple of sites specifically designed for bicycle campers as well. So, overall it's a really nice campground.

Unfortunately, it's also a cramp-ground. Camp sites are packed in very tightly indeed. We had room to open our awning, but only because we were able to back in farther than our nearest neighbor on that side. The lakeside sites are better because they are deeper. However, you can't reserve a specific site - you tell them how long your rig is and they plan accordingly, assigning your site when you arrive based on the mix of campers who will be there with you.

The shared bath for the campground is simple but clean, and includes a shower. The laundry looks like it will do the job, though we did not use it.

We took advantage of and enjoyed a kayak rental, paddling around Lake Crescent for a couple of hours. Highly recommended activity! You can also rent a canoe, paddle board, or even a bike. The nearby railroad trail is a must-do activity. Lots of fun and plenty of beautiful sights along the way.

We did not see or explore the interiors of the rustic cabins, chalets, lodge rooms or camper cabins. We also did not eat at the restaurant, as we brought plenty of food and cooked / ate with our friends who camped next to us. Each site has a fire ring, and good quality firewood is available at the lodge so you don't have to bring your own unless you really want to.

Stayed May 2014, traveled with friends"

A couple of pictures from Log Cabin Resort campground. We had a view of the lake and they had recently taken down a dead tree.

Thanks Silvery Moon, I guess I didn't notice the RV reviews of the campground.

Great review you wrote, thanks for sharing it with me. We're rethinking our plans to stay there. It looks like a beautiful place, but I have a feeling it's going to be busy and crowded.

Yep, it will be busy and crowded. However, here's how it looked that weekday in May, just before the Memorial Day crowd showed up.

In the picture to the right of our trailer you can probably see that super-skinny grass strip between us and the empty spot next to us. Definitely tightly packed.

Pretty tranquil with all those empty spots around us. Kind of deceptive, really, but the lake and the views are what keep people going there despite the spotty reviews.

That said, despite the Memorial Day crowds that eventually showed up, we really had a great time there. We'd definitely go there again, though it appears the best strategy is to show up on, say, Thursday, and use your best schmoozing techniques to convince them to give you a spot facing the lake before the place is slammed. Having the right length rig seems to help...our trailer is 28' long, despite the name, and that seemed to help convince them we should be on the lake. Well, maybe that and the fact that it was a beautiful Airstream. Schmoozing and early arrival may not work, but it's worth a shot.

BTW, many of the folks camping around us that weekend were actually locals who zipped out their quite early on Friday.

By way of contrast, here are a few shots from our visit to Salt Creek the same week. Completely different experience on the Strait of Juan de Fuca, but just as lovely in every way. This place is also incredibly popular and fills quickly. You should see from the pictures that the 3rd tier is the best place to park if you have an FB so you can get that stunning view. Also, there are really no trees to speak of in the RV section of the park, but it's so cool and windy here that you really won't mind too much. Mind the awning though, a gust can come up and steal it away if you're not paying attention. Bring your kites.

Oh, and when you get there, you'll discover why we call that spot for one photo "4G Point". Hehe. The Canadians will offer you phone/data service at international roaming prices since you have a clear shot at all the towers in Victoria and Vancouver Island, but at 4G point you get full-on US service from AT&T and Verizon. Walk through the campground looking for it and you'll find it pretty easily.

I hope everyone is having a lovely Labor Day weekend here in the Pacific NW. We are staying at the Driftwood RV Resort in Copalis Beach (near Ocean Shores). The place is currently being rebuilt, but the owner is hard working and it's amazing how much he's accomplished since our last visit here a few weeks ago. The sites are nice, all new hookups, big wide pull-thru sites and the back-in sites are surrounded by trees and also very big. As I said, it's currently being remodeled, so don't expect much in the way of amenities. There is no swimming pool, rec center, etc. But they do offer wi-fi and cable.

Yesterday we took a trip to the North Shore Jetty. What a beautiful place, weather was great.

Today it's raining - really raining hard! Puddles everywhere. I guess we have to expect rain when you live here in Washington!

So where are you spending your Labor Day Weekend?

Here's a link to a place that sounds fun in Walla Walla wine country.

Just heard of it. Hope to go next spring or fall.
