Sounds intriguing. We have the bonfire size, so we'd have to modify the modification. How's the heat output? Many a time our fire outlasted our desire to sit around it, so I totally see the value of a 45 minute fire. Also with the "buy it where you burn it" policy, which is unfortunately but necessarily the new normal, wood is ridiculously expensive nowadays. We're gonna ponder on this, thank you!

This is pretty cool, an ingenious way to get a good campfire result. For us, I'm thinking that if we gave up space in the tiny confines of our AI van to carry a fireplace gadget, it would probably be a propane-fired unit so we could also use it when wood fires are prohibited - as they usually are during fire season. That said, your solution comes a lot closer to the real thing than any propane campfire gadget does, and if I had room this would be worth a try.

Interesting you should mention propane... while at Alumapallooza this year, we noticed someone with a Solo Stove that had modified it to use a pile of lava rocks (from a gas grill) over some sort of propane manifold, likely homemade. I think the stove itself was inverted and they used the spark arrestor collar to contain the pumice stones. Made for a nice, subtle gas campfire. Only drawback I noticed was the 20lb propane cylinder tethered to the scene. Yet another creative use of the Solo Stove by the Airstream community.

Very clever. Thanks for describing it.

Hi Holly!
Golly! I am doing this exact thing! Driving from FL to CA to pick up the '62 Tradewind -- First time for me too! She is set up with more than everything and the previous owner is already a sister to me!
Driving Porsche Cayenne the "southern route" to meet my "rig". Practice towing for a few days, then away we go! To who knows..where? Best of luck to you! Thanks to all who posted their advice and lists...check. check. check

Wrench for the front electric jack motor when the plastic gears fail. Super glue extra reading glasses./prn. Tire ramp if you have duel axle. Safety vest for that work along the road. Reusable zip ties. I use these on my awnings. Stand alone ice maker. Duel fuel generator. Can hook it up your trailer tank cheers
