Ideas for Camping in Coastal Carolinas
We are trying to plan a trip during the third week in March,
perhaps near the coastal areas of
South Carolina or the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Many of the state parks (Hunting Island, Edisto) are pretty full already. We really prefer places with some privacy between sites where you're not packed in
like sardines. We like to hike, sightsee, and walk our dog on the beach. I also like antiquing. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

Huntington Beach State Park has nice big lots. Just south of Murrells Inlet. Here we are in December 2012. Also plenty to do.

Camping Near Myrtle Beach
There is a beautiful 5 star campground (Willow Tree) close to Myrtle Beach. While not right in Myrtle Beach it is about 10 minutes away in Longs, South Carolina. We have stayed there many times and it is very nice. Long pull thought sites with full hook-ups. Sites are very close to a large man made lake with a very nice walking trail around the lake. We have not stayed here yet, although scheduled in March, but check out Altamaha Regional Campground in Brunswick, GA. It is right on the Altamaha River so if you are into kayaking or canoeing this might be a good option.
This maybe further south than you want to go, and I don't have a campground recommendation, but the Okefenokee Swamp is really cool - on the FL/GA line.

Thanks to you all for your great suggestions. This forum's members are the best! I should not have waited so long to make travel plans as, being from Florida where all the campsites book up many months in advance, I should have known. We think we may be able to get into Huntington Beach, but could not go to the Francis Marion forest campground because they don't allow pets. Imagine that! Willow looked nice, but the rates were a bit higher than we wanted to pay. The Altamaha regional park also looked nice, but we wanted to go a little further north. Again, thanks everyone!

Edisto beach, Edisto beach, Edisto beach. South of Charleston.
St. Mary's, Georgia is also lovely.
Actually, the coast from st. Augustine up is all worth seeing.
