I've done it before, several years ago, towing with my F250 6.0 PSD. Several co-workers who had towed campers through there in the past hated it and tried to 'warn me' about it.
The whole time I went through there I was thinking, okay so where is the scary part? Perhaps I am brave, or foolish.
I see you are in Chillicothe. Not sure if you will be taking I-75 over Jelico mountain, right at the KY/TN border. If you can handle that without freaking out I'd say you are good to go.

Yep I came over Jellico. We are staying in Knoxville at present time. Folks here say it's a white finger pull. Unless something happens I'll find out Friday this week.
Txs for the feedback.

I've towed several different Airstreams through there in both directions with no problems. It is sort of curvey, but nothing white-knuckled about it. I remember the speed limit drops from 65-50 or so for about 20 miles or so.

Same here with a 25FC and Ford Expedition. No problems, just watch your speed. I stayed in the right lane the whole time.

Back and forth many times, with and without the trailer. White knuckle might mean wind, snow, thunderstorm, emergency landslide detour, but for me that's been 1 pass in 20-something years. The more likely problem is that you saw the "no trucks left lane next 20 miles" and thought that applied to you. I did too, until I recently thought to dig a bit. Does not seem like much until you're east bound at MM2 behind a chicken hauler going 40 mph.
Fortunately, per NC DOT: Single trucks with a gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of greater than 26,000 pounds with three (3) or more axles, or truck and trailer combinations with three (3) or more axles and a combined gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of greater than 26,000 pounds, shall be prohibited to use the leftmost lane between the Tennessee State line and 0.7 mile west of US 276.

The grade is not terribly steep, but it is long. A long slow grind for sure, If the tow vehicle starts to overheat just pull into the emergency lane to cool down. I don;t think it is a white knuckle trip either direction. Just a long slow pull.

As but one road in the Interstate highway system, I-40 is no big deal IMO. All AS drivers and tow vehicles should be able to handle it just fine.

As pointed out and shared here ... no issues this morning. Steady speed all the way up and down into Asheville. Cracker Barrel time.

Glad that you had a safe trip. It never hurts to ask in advance about certain roads, especially in the mountains.
