I-70 closure in Colorado
This Wednesday (7-28-16) and Thursday (7-29-16) I-70 through Glenwood Canyon will be closed from 9 am to 3:30 pm to install rock fencing. You will have to get off the highway at Glenwood Springs or Dotsero. They will not let people wait on the highway, so anyone with a trailer may be somewhat perplexed what to do. And the Main St. bridge over I-70 in Glenwood is being rebuilt or replaced and that is also a traffic nightmare.
Don't try to get around this by taking Colo. 82 over Independence Pass (between Aspen and Twin Lakes near Leadville). There's a 30' limit on that highway.
Alternate routes are much, much longer if you wait until you get close to the closure. Some of them are hard for towing. US 50 is a better alternate as is US 40, or just camp somewhere and wait it out.
