Hurricane Update

It is still gusty and rainy here in Orlando... All the Theme Parks are closed today. Airstream held up well with the wind. Lowered the jacks and chocked the tires. Just went out there and turned on the A/C to lower the humidity. We were lucky and did not lose power.

Watching on the news the storm surge rushing thru St. Augustine, I hate to think of all of this water in St. Marys, Brunswick, Savannah, Charleston, etc.

Stay safe thru the night, everyone.

Space Coast dodged a bullet!

Our son just went by the house. No evidence of storm surge on A1A in Indialantic/Melbourne Beach area. We lost a large queen palm. It fell away from the house into the front yard and landed on a Hibiscus tree. We'll have to see if anything is salvageable when we get back. Only damage to the house was loss of some soffit on the north side. Hopefully no water damage, but he forgot to bring his key. Sailboat was hauled for bottom job and is still vertical in the boatyard.

Whew!

We will be heading back Sunday or Monday pending restoration of power.

Al

I am extremely thankful for my airstream as I am sitting in it comfortably in my driveway while waiting for my power to be restored.

I am also thankful that I have no damage from the storm.

Be safe traveling home.

Evacuated from St. Augustine to Live Oak (west of Lake City) with our AS. These are pictures of our neighbors' yards along the St. John's River; not a pretty scene, but we are glad for the haven of our Airstream.

This what our neighbors back yard looked like at 3 pm on the Saint Johns river in Saint Augustine, we packed up and went the spirit of the Suwannee music park. We will see if we can head back tomorrow, neighbors report trees down to the north and south. The water is the main issue, if we can make it back most likely we'll be spending the nights in the airstream till the power comes online.Click image for larger version

From the National Weather Service....

....The Heaviest rains are occurring from Edisto Beach to Sullivans Island, including downtown Charleston, associated with the Western eye of the hurricane. Extreme rainfall rates combined with ongoing very high surge will produce dangerous, life threatening flash flooding in coastal communities. Including downtown Charleston.

Some locations that will experience flooding include: downtown Charleston, North Charleston, Mount Pleasant. Summerville, Goose Creek, Hanahan. Mcclellanville and Edisto Beach.

No damage to River Ranch. Just some extra leaves that were easily blown away with the leaf blower. We are blessed.

Lots of rain & flooding at our house which is about 25 miles from downtown Charleston & the coast. The eye is passing over Charleston now. Heavy winds & some trees down & power out. Hopefully this is the worst of it. If so we have been very lucky as FL was hit much harder.

I was on assignment in Iowa when the storm hit but the wife and inlaws got evacuated from the river on 13 to more inland. The house survived without a scratch but the dock and mailbox had it roughClick image for larger version

We're about a mile from the coast in NSB Fl. We loaded up the Bambi with all the computers etc from our office along with some personal belongings and headed inland.

We were able to park the Bambi on the leaward side of my Father in Laws house (about 5 miles inland) and she rode out the storm fine other than being covered in small limbs etc.
