how to get all hot water in Sport 16???

wife and i are on our first trip in new sport 16. everything going great except we can only get about a quart or so of hot water.
i contacted service folks at airstream today during a long drive to florida campsite (fantastic) and what they told me was a bit confusing as this is so new to me, but i think they said to turn the valve in the closet to allow waterflow from white to red side. i understood the fine fella at airstream to say that the middle valve comes closed from the factory so that if the airstream is winterized immediately, the antifreeze does not go into hot water heater??? (i predict i have this really screwed up in my mind)..... Tonight i opened the hot water hatch inside the closet and all three valves are inline (open).
what am i doing wrong???
thanks so much,
bob

Attachment 211383Well, a quart is the limit of hot water in the 16'. (just kidding)

You should have valve a and c open and b closed. In the drawing B, the closed one, is the one in the middle. The other two should be open. I will check to see if your model is different online but that is the way mine is.

Also make sure that your water heater is on and did not run out of LP gas.

If you are hooked up to the campsite water spigot then you have water?

OR, if dry camping, is your water pump on? Just checking.

Here is a pic (double-click to make larger) of a Sport manual diagram. Hope it helps. I did not see a diagram in the new model book. OH loo

There should be a valve on the cold water line (white), a valve on the hot water line (red) and a valve on the crossover that connects the two. That valve on the connector should normally be closed. It is opened only when winterizing. Did your trailer come with an instruction book? There should be instructions there for winterizing and it should include a diagram on how to set those valves.

Let me know if it works for you. Normal operation is to have the middle valve closed and the other two open. Winterizing is the opposite for storing - both sides closed and middle one open.

So, for use, close the middle valve. Sorry for the abc stuff, I changed the photo reference from a 2010 using abc to a 2014 using 123.

thanks to all...
i am properly hooked up to city water at campsite.
bypass valve was open. i just closed bypass valve thanks to your guidance...
lp bottles are full and turned on.
pump is off as my understanding is that the pump is only necessary when not using city water or when city water pressure is low...
do i now need to do anything to cause cold water to enter hot water heater?
again, thanks kindly!
bob

No, sounds right. Is the water heater turned on now? reset it just in case it thermally shut down. Listen for the sounds of draining water and a burner. If you are in Santa Rosa, look for a 30 foot Airstream bunkhouse and a young family. That is Pharmgeek on the forum. He is supposedly there or coming there. You may have to crack a faucet on the hot side in case of air.
