Okay-
More pictures have been posted-
Anyway, the lady was standing in the water holding a fish.
I don't know how to get the older pictures to come back.

Buy a used fishing specific kayak and try it. You'll love it. It's a very fast growing sport. And if you don't like it, sell the yak and you'll get your money back.

See the site on the boat.

I have to say, I'm quite impressed with the Porta Bote web site information about their boats. I know they've been around awhile and if you're not good you're not going to last long. They say they've been around for 40 years. I was concerned about the stability but it looks to be quite stable, roomy and otherwise impressive. I especially like how they fold flat and can fit on the TV roof, RV and stow easily in the garage.
What kind of price are we talking about? You have to contact them if you want a quote.

Rich, as I posted earlier, I have a 12 foot Porta boat that I use a 6hp when on the river and a 45# trolling motor on lakes (these are the 10-40 acre size). With the wife, cooler, fishing tackle we have plenty of room. I have had it about 10 years now and still looks like new.It takes about the same time to set-up as my Zodiac did and is more comfortable. I carry the boat on top and the seats and transom in truck.
I liked my inflatable, but after hitting glass and wire when launching and having to repair, I worried safety; even with several chambers.
Both solid and inflatable have their pros and cons and it is up to the individual. I have tried to inform you my experiences and hope it helps.

I fly fish and mostly fish coastal beaches and creaks/rivers and can get anywhere I need to go with a pair of chest waders. If I go to a lake, I have my belly boat.

I agree! We split our trips between WA and OR since we are right on the border. It's only $30 for a WA license, but an out-of-state OR license is OVER $100!!! I've only gone fishing once in OR, and I bought a three day license for that trip, and that cost as much as my annual WA license!
But back to boats - if you haven't tried a Kayak you should find one to rent or make friends with someone who has one. They are really nice. We used to have a sit-on-top - roomy, stable, quite fun to paddle. Just took up too much room in the garage compared to the inflatable that just rolls up and gets packed away for the winter.

My wife, son and I fished in Oregon for 2 days last year; very expensive for the licenses and we didn't even get checked and caught only 2 small fish. I guess they just don't want out of state people fishing their waters.
I've used a kayak on the Potomac River, just for an afternoon outing. It was very pleasant and I've been trying to talk the wife into using one but it's no sale. For fishing she likes to be standing up or at least on something more stable than a kayak or canoe. I showed the pictures of the porta bote and at least she didn't reject it right off the bat. I'm going to bet that the price is more than I'm willing to pay, however, but we'll see what the brochure says.

Those are some really great photos and I enjoyed a small kayak on the Potomac. At our age, getting in and out would be the challenge and fishing would be difficult. We may just bank fish this year and keep looking for a solution to present itself next summer.

Hello richw46:
I car-top my 13 foot Gregor aluminum boat on my suburban using an IDE loader. I can do it myself with little effort!
Enjoy!

Suburbans seem to be just the right length for this. I received a photo of one with a 12' boat on it. If I can fit one on my 4Runner it might be the solution.

Kayak for me, but spring for a good one that suits your fishing wants/needs the best. Line like Jackson and Native Watercraft make excellent fishing 'yaks. I love my Native!

I viewed some of the Jackson kayak videos and they seem to be quite stable and roomy. The kayak people are winning me over . It appears that with the difference in weight and width it would be easier to put that on the TV roof. The Big Tuna is the one I was looking at, seems to be the most family oriented.

Did someone say "BIG TUNA"
Great boat for crabbing, fishing or just plain fun. Very stable and not bad at all in the surf zone.
Here's one I was asked to do an evaluation of last year. The boat was a pleasure to work, a bit more weight than I'm used to / yup monster crabs!

How do you carry the Portabote? I think the 12.5' weighs about 86 lbs. I was hoping to carry it on top of my TV but that's a lot of weight to struggle up and down.
How does it handle on the water when there are waves?
What size outboard do you use?

Port-bote is having a spring sale. I just received pricing information in the mail this past week. Here is how things are priced at the moment...
Free shipping. (normally, $149); $200 off the following (normal) prices; free bote opener (see it here, ) and set of oars and locks (I think this might be a normal, every day deal) and the first ... so many people (first 10, actually, or so says the ad) get a free swivel chair.
8-ft= $1799
10-ft = 1999
12-ft = $2099
14-ft = $2359
Hope this helps, and no, I am not affiliated, I just recently requested pricing and thought I could help.
If you decide to purchase, I would love to know your thoughts.

I am planning on an inflatable with electric motor. Cheap and light weight. Check out Sevylor as they have several different models.

I've been sailing for a while and I've had all types of dinghys. IMHO anyone that buys an inflatable that is not made of Hypalon is wasting their money. In addition, inflatables are very difficult to row compared to a hard dinghy. We have an 8' Porta-bote that weighs in @ less than 60# and is easily handled by one person on and off the top of our TV. Power is a 3.5 Nissan.

The Big Tuna is a monster. A very good friend of mine has one. It's extremely stable as he can stand with both feet on one side and not submerge it. It's also got the whole live well thing going for it, which is pretty cool. Two of my other friends have the Jackson Cudas and I have to say those are very well thought out fishing boats as well.
