This Thread is probably out of Topic... but these advertisements can follow you around like a lost puppy. I would have to "stay" On The Road and never return as my friends will ask me why I am selling body lotions and women's underwear on the side. Although they seem to be well made.

An advertisement some of you seem to have on your posts to my threads that are of no value to anybody. My Threads... not the advertisement you spent hours posing and getting the lighting just right.

I am getting too cynical to watch the news. Weird Videos... I find the news too weird. How about you?

How about fishing gear or tool sets?

I finished a post about hats and a Spanx Panty advertisement was added to my post.

I see some of you get some hot young women and I get Spanx Panties. Obviously some mistake if the NSA is funneling information as to my preference in under garments or some of these other advertisements.

I did not mind the Honda Generator advertisement that temporarily was on a post of mine. I like Honda generators and would recommend them to anyone wearing a nice Western Hat or Spanx Panties... but I am NOT a Spanx Panty customer.

My colors would be white anyways. J C Penny. Period.

These hot chics... obviously someone encrypting these advertisements has me confused with someone, much younger. I wear real man's clothing and more of it.

Has anyone else had an advertisement that just did not fit your "shopping profile"? Or... when I see your post and the advertisement... WAS it was specially selected for... YOU?

I do not mind ATV ads. Airstream parts ads. But, come on... people are going to get the wrong impression that I selected this ad to be on my post.

Seriously, tho, I get advertisements at times that seem related to email content, and that's a little scary.

But, I figured out long ago that those who have the ability to violate our privacy will.....they just can't help themselves.

So, I just don't think about it too much.

It has rained here for four weeks. I should be in Wyoming metal detecting and finding dinosaurs. Not detecting for Dinosaurs, for metal objects like the meteorite that helped cause them to go extinct. Not having to wait for a bit of sunshine and dry grass to cut this jungle of a yard. Next thing, we will have a glacier on its way. Cannot wait to pack up and head to the Southwest.

It's all about the 'cookies'. When you visit a website (say REI), the application leaves a small footprint called a 'cookie' on your computer. Other websites (say Air Forums for example) look at your cookies to see what you're interested in, then display an advertisment from a recent browse. I suspect that by doing so, the site displaying another sites product gets a small fee for doing so.

Haha, a most excellent off-topic topic. The ads are typically targeted at a combination of what the post is about and what they are guessing you are interested in based on what they have sussed out about you based on cookie-driven profiles that build up over time as you (or your spouse or your dog / cat) surf the internet.

So, while Ray might see Spanx panties next to his posts, if I saw an ad there, I might see something completely different.

Full disclosure: At one point, I actually helped design and build an ad server for an Internet-based company, so that input is hopefully a bit more than fact-free forum fodder.

That said, I blame Ray's dog for the Spanx ads he's seeing.

Wait a second. I go to my Safari Preferences and delete these cookies to start a clean record. Right now 173, A to Z. Soon to be ZERO, but they keep piling in there.

Just remember. When you find an advertisement on your post... it was selected for YOU and your previous activity on the internet.

When is Spring suppose to arrive? 2016? Between the fourth record precipitation in four years during a drought... maybe I need to check out some of these advertisements. We have had an easy May compared to some States. If we flood on this spot I live... I hope Airstreams can float. It is loaded and ready to go... somewhere.

Here's a thought: Open an "incognito" or "private" window and visit Air Forums to see what ads you get. That window won't be sharing your cookies - not even the Flash cookies (another whole story, those are).

You could also try using a tunneling product to change your IP address so it looks like you're surfing from somewhere else in the country or the world. Tunnel Bear is one such tool - it's free and I use it from time to time, particularly when I'm surfing from a free wi-fi location.

Let's see whether you still get those silly Spanx ads!

Another possibility is your user profile contains hidden information about things about which you've shown an interest in the past. So, you may not be able to kill everything by deleting all your cookies. Do switch to private browsing and see how it behaves.

Why is it that I just get ads for prune juice. :-):

You do realize that with every post where you mention the… unmentionables, you're only making the problem worse for yourself?

Spend some time browsing the Cabelas, Bass Pro, and Smith & Wesson web pages, and you should start seeing more manly ads popping up very soon.

I have found when I access Airforums from my lovely Bride's iPad, there are more... feminine targeted ads that pop up.... Since she rarely uses the MAC, I see things Protag refers to... guns, boats, etc...

When I started turning off the various doo-dads and widgets that I normally have activated while surfing the net, I saw lots of Airstream-related ads.

As I enabled more ads, I also saw one for Nexxus beauty products and a nice big banner ad for... drum roll, please... Exclusive Thong Panties.

Neither of those are quite my style, though the latter was pretty amusing. Serves me right for mentioning Spanxx in my posts above.

The ads that show up for me are from web searches I have done. Apparently this website tracks other websites I visit to know what I am interested in.

Ad at the top: Atlantis resort-
Ad on the right: Toyota Mirai hydrogen car-
Ad at the bottom: Century 21 real estate-
I haven't visited any of these sights and I'm not interested in any of these products.
All other ads are Airstream or rally related.

For what it is worth, I hate the targeted adds as well. Sure, I only have Electric Generators Direct advertising to me right now, but it's the concept of digging in my computer for information and then using that for marketing that bugs me.
