Today on Bob & Lee's random trip.

Hi, today, while on our trip we decided to go to Hoover Dam to see the new bridge. Here are some of today's pictures.

By looking at pic's taken today, 3-28-2010, it's obvious they have been hard at it.

So here's the big question? Who will be the very first Airstream to cross it? I mean, thats what this thread is really about right?

I am bummed that they are bypassing the Dam. It is cool to drive across it. The funds come from and the purpose for the bypass is homeland security. Bummer.

Maybe everybody can line up and camp waiting for the bridge to open ... like at the Apple stores when a new product comes out!

If it is finished and open, we will be crossing it on October 12th.

They gonna make it?

On second thought.. lets allow some of those large trucks going into Vegas go over it for awhile. A few dozen inspections later, then we caravan!

Yes, that would be fun, except we will have our '83 27' Excella coming from the Balloon Fiesta to a High School Reunion in Las Vegas.

I don't know when the bridge is going to open. I just know that if it's open on October 12th, we'll use it. If not, we'll get to Vegas another way.

Jim- They keep telling us late 2010. They have said that once it's completed it will not be open to traffic until all cement has 'cured'. This should be approx another month or so.

If you are up that way even before bypass is open they will let you cross the dam with your AS. If I remember right from previous post they even watered Vinnies dog.

Good memory...

I was pretty nervous that they were going to tear up the airstream during an inspection. I opened it up.. they walked in and then walked out and saw the dog in the kennel and gave her the rest of his ice cold water.. nice folks..

Wow, a bridge that looks like a bridge. On so many of our highways anymore you can cross a bridge and not even be aware you have done so. Bridges are such an important part of culture and its success. Do we sometimes get in too much of a hurry and forget to see our world. Thanks for the report on this project and the pictures. We often take the old roads just to see the bridges.
