Having seen TV programs on building the bridge, I don't think I'd want to see over the side. We'll be in that area in 2 weeks, so I hope they open it early.

Hmmm. I think we need to see a few months worth of trucks going over it first.. just to shake out any issues that might arise. lol

Can't be any crazier than the Golden Gate, the Narrows in Wa State or the Mackinac in the U.P. of Michigan. I'm going to ride on the roof while Judy drives!

Sorry Paula.

I think that may have been us in our Airstream. We didn't see anyone waive we would have waived back. We were heading back from visiting family there. We have a 65 Overlander and a White Yukon TV.

That is one BIG dam bridge! Many many moons ago I jumped out of perfectly good airplanes - and one day a year they open the "New River Bridge" to base jumpers. Picture me and three Navy Seals getting ready to do a base jump (my first). I put one leg over the rail, watched my kneecap vibrating like unbalanced running gear and realized that my body had more sense than my brain. I opted out. No one was killed but 4 people were injured. Sprains and a broken ankle or two. This bridge or rather the gulch under it are far bigger. I bet someone walks across the bridge with a backpack on, and it turns out to BE a parachute. It'll take him a week to climb out of the gulch!

I remembered stopping on the Dam in the mid '50's on a road trip with my parents. We walked along the sidewalk and when I looked down that steep slope of the dam, I could imagine myself tumbling down. That was literally a sinking feeling. My father wouldn't go near it (or the edge of the Grand Canyon either). Worse is the Going to the Sun Hwy where I could feel the road starting to slide down the shear rock face. Somehow when we got to the bottom, it was still up there.

Some like heights and will ride on the roof or become iron workers (remember that famous photo of iron workers eating lunch, sitting on an I-beam with nothing around them or below them in NYC back in the '30's?), but that's not for me.

Hey Mike, you might want to check with Charlie M first and see if they know where those wind speed moniters are mounted.

Not sure who 'they' are but according to a news segment this a/m it is not going to be announced exactly when it will actually be opened to vehicle traffic in order to try and prevent traffic gridlock expected.

Either way it should be very soon.

So will you not be able to cross the road on the dam? My thought is if you can't see off the new bridge, I'd rather see the veiw from the dam. MPJ

I read somwhere that the dam crossing has to be entered from the Nevada side, not sure if that means pedestrian traffic only or what?
