High Falls State Park, Near Macon GA
Just thought I'd put in a recommendation for High Falls State Park, 30 miles north of Macon GA and not very far off the I75.
We had two nights booked as a rest from the long haul trip we were doing and couldn't have found a better place for a quiet day off.
The staff in the office were great and offered us the use of their WiFi (so long as we were parked close enough!) as well as being very helpful to a foreigner like me.
We were in the Riverside Campground, which is across the road and down a fairly steep hill. It didn't look that promising but once down by the river we had the pick of some excellent sites in the woods, all widely spaced and made from packed gravel bound with timber. Ours was a back-in site (number 4) and was plenty long enough for our trailer and car. Thirty Amp power and water were available with the dump station (currently being rebuilt) on the exit road. The bath house was reasonably clean with ample showers and toilets; the fact that the kids were happy to use the facilities speaks volumes.
Had we been there longer we'd no doubt have gone canoeing on the lake and swimming in the pool. As it was we had a great evening at Jonah's Pizzeria in nearby Forsyth followed by a lovely day in Macon.
Overall, four and half stars out of five, the half star off because the Bath House could have been a teeny bit cleaner.
