Heat Pump Question
Just curious, what is the lowest outside temperature that the heat pump will provide enough heat?

Mid 30s for my unit. But I supplement it with a Dyson Hot/Cold.

I recall about 42 degrees is the cut off. Probably depends on humidity as well.

Seems like the cutoff varies from unit to unit???? Mine switches over to furnace at about 37*

It is in the low forties. We run the furnace at night if we think it is going into the low forties because we find the HP noisy.

We have had similar heat pump results to around 40 degrees.

Mine starts to drop off around 40. Nice to have the gas furnace and a small ceramic heater as alternate heat sources.

About 40*..but only during the day, too noisy.
Early AM or evening with genset.....  Pelonis Disc, (old style, metal)

The good old days when if its hot you use the air cond, when it's cold you use the furnace, so much simpler.

We normally use the heat pump if the ambient temp. isn't expected to be below the mid 30s. It seems to work fine. We sometimes use a space heater too. If it's forecast to be below the mid 30s, we use the gas furnace. Also depends on other factors like wind.

Upper 30's.
 We found that last fall the heat pumps In our new 2016 Classic worked quite well into the upper 30's which occurred at night during our Thanksgiving trip to TN.

Am I to understand that the switch from heat pump to furnace occurs automatically when the temparure drops roo low for the heat pump?
Also it seems like having a small space heater might make sense. Currently we do not have one.

Yes you are correct. At least that's the way they operate in our 2016 Classic. That is so you wont freeze to death during the night!
