Heading to Steamboat Springs Area

We were going to go all the way to Utah this Sept, but want a little shorter trip and don't want any more heat.
So instead of Utah, we will be heading to NW/NCentral Colorado.
We have camped at Hawns Peak before and liked it very much.
However, we have gotten a little spoiled with having water and elec. (I am not a generator lover.)
So, the question is: Is there a campground near Steamboat Springs, or any other Northern CO town, that has hook-ups, but is a little more secluded or private in camp-site locations. We like peace and quiet shade..
Any suggestions appreciated..
We may end up back at Hawns Peak Lake, but if there is something else out there, we like new places too.

Steamboat Lake State Park is near Hahn's Peak. Most sites have water and electric There are dispersed sites around Steamboat Lake. Many sites have beautiful views
You can make reservations online at the Colorado State Parks web site. Electric sites fill up on the weekends, but there are non electric sites that are usually available.

I think we stayed a few days there one time (Steamboat Lake State Park)
I can't remember, are there some shaded sites? Are there "non reserved" sites available?
It may be the answer for us. We like to do a little fly fishing, so we will have to drive some, but that's not a problem.
Steamboat Lake may be the answer.

GettinAway, Probably not too many shaded sites as pine beetle has killed many of the lodgepole pines. Not to worry as day time temps rarely exceed the low 80's with low humidity.
Steamboat Lake is 29 miles NW of Steamboat Springs. It is at the foot of Hahn's Peak which you mentioned in your original post.
If you arrive in the middle of the week, you can probably get an electric site without reservations. Non electric sites are more available and just as scenic. Best to make reservations online. Pearl Lake is nearby and has a more primative campground.
Pearl Lake has some big cutthroat trout. Do you have a float tube? Try smaller wooly buggers and a sinking fly line. There are limited public water stretches of the Elk River.

It looks like the pine beetles have really hammered the Steamboat area.
Hahn's Peak is closed down for repairs, and Steamboat and Pearl Lakes looks like from some reading to not have any trees left..
We really have great memories of Hahn's Peak and camping in the woods. Not sure I want to see it without the trees..

Any one have another suggestion in North Central Colorado? Or North Eastern Co?

Can you make a vacation out of the areas in SE Wyoming.. I think it's the snowy river range, or something like that..

Are there any trees left there?
