I should add that when I take 19/27 I have found it best to avoid Ocala and the Villages. I stay on 19 to Crystal River, then take 44 across, you then can pick up 27 one exit down on Florida turnpike without paying toll. Eliminates a congested portion of the route.

Heading to Key West

We travel from Tallahassee to St Pete/Tampa Bay frequently & avoid US19 at all cost. Very congested, heavy business traffic & bad roads around Pasco Cty. The Veterans Exoressway is a much nicer drive & really good road but it is a toll road.

I agree that 19 gets bad as you get closer to Clearwater/St Pete. The route I suggested of cutting over to 27 at Crystal River avoids the congestion in Pasco County. There is also a great small brewery in Crystal River named Copps.

Hey Beachbouy, the last day of rally is the 11th.

Hey Chief. . . We drove that Biloxi (Keesler) to MIA many times , before interstates. US 90 East, US 27 South ! 857 miles as I recall ! The things a young fellow will do to see a GF, eh ? Fond memories ! I grew up in MIA, so the keys were our playground. Not nearly as crowded as now. . . enjoy, Craig

If you do come down 27, you can pick up State Road 997 (Krome Avenue) just north of Miami Dade County. While a two lane road, it skirts the far western edge of the county, avoiding the concentrated miserableness that the Turnpike or Palmetto Expressway present.

If you come across US 41 or I75 you can pick it up as well.

Krome will bring you to US1 at Florida City.

Enjoy,

Mike

The smell emanating from the recent major fish kill has a few FLA campers scurrying to other locations. We are at Patrick AFBs RV park and the occupancy rate changed a bit. Looking forward to meeting other retired military Airstreamers.
