Heading to Florida next week - I75 Rock Slide Status?

We are heading to Florida next week and we are wondering about the I75 closure due to the rock slide. Any updates? Also, .... hows the construction thru Dayton and should I stay of I75 going thru downtown Cincinnati?

You can Google the Department of Transportation (DOT) for any state and get up to date information on traffic. I find these are very useful sites in planning a trip. When on the road I use Waze on my smart phone. If there's a traffic accident or delay for construction, Waze can find an alternate route for you.

We were coming back from Texas and Waze told us to take an exit while the Garmin said to keep going. We got to the exit and you could see traffic at a dead stop (Waze shows this as red on the road, yellow for slow.)

We took the exit and followed the instructions, getting back on the Interstate right at the scene of the accident, ahead of all the other cars. It was a bad accident and Waze saved us from being stuck in it. I don't leave home without it.

I 75 is open now, with two. Lanes southbound, one northbound. Just drove it last week.

Southbound you will be fine. Both lanes open. If you are northbound, forget it. While one lane is open, it can become backed up quickly. I drove from Indy to Knoxville and it was fine. Just felt bad for the people on the northbound side as the back up was at least 10 mile.

Second take

Based solely off the subject line and as a Tampa full-timer, I was utterly confused about the possibility of rock slides in FL... I was wondering if that was code for something.

Don't go thru Cincinnati during rush hour times. If there is a wreck or a shooting then there will be a long backup. Take your time as I-75 is always a rough road.
700 WLW am radio or 550 WKRC am radio are the local traffic and weather stations, tune it in on the south side of dayton as they have frequent updates on road and weather conditions.

I just came through the I75 rock slide this Monday

I was on I75 last weekend. I went to The Smoky Mountains last Friday (4/1/16) and I came back on Monday (4/4/16). The rock slide area was open both lanes south bound and one lane north bound. It's a little delay going north.
As to Dayton and Cincinnati you won't have a lot of problems if you time your trip so you're not driving through either during rush hours. I think Dayton had been under construction for at least 10 years

I have lived in Cincinnati for 69 years. Suggest you avoid I-75 especially during rush hours. Take I-275 West around through Indiana. Lots of construction around the 4-5-6-7 mile markers of I-75 plus the choke point of the interstate bridge crossing the Ohio River in downtown.
