Mmmm, Tex-Mex in Texas!

I'd head for the first restaurant I found that had homemade
tamales.

Travel safe,

Maggie

Both are paved roads, 264 being the main road between Tuba City and WIndow Rock. 87 is a secondary road, but paved. Make sure you top off your fuel tank in Tuba City. I don't recall any filling stations between Tuba City and Winslow.

thanks

thanks alumaholic......

maggie...we were in chicmacum, washington...at a farmers market....they had fresh home made tamales......$44.00 a dozenI almost passed out....needles to say i passed them by.

In Austin, Texas homemade tamales will be plentiful this time of the year....folks make them for thanksgiving and christmas....... and they won't be $44.00 a dozen

Shawn, we are at Mt. Carmel Jct. (east of Zion) -- plans are for the North Rim after a couple of days at Zion. The weather is pretty yucky (cool and rain) here today and tomorrow so we'll probably just hang out here until it clears a bit. Are you camped at the National Park North Rim Campground? If so, was wondering -- we do not have reservations and wondered if you thought a walk up might be a possibility? Thanks in advance for any insights.

Debbie

We were at North Rim Campground at the end of August. It was pretty much filled every day. But you can check online to see if anything is available. Grand Canyon National Park - Campgrounds - North Rim (U.S. National Park Service)

We're actually in Jacob Lake (30 mins north) ...I can say that it's supposed to snow tonight 1 to 3 inches (it's just raining right now)...there's like 2 or 3 other a/s here right now -- coming off the balloon rally. I know this...it's supposed to be in the low 20's, and there's no hookups at all at that campground.

Most Scenic vs. Most Expeditious

Most Scenic:
AZ 61 to St. Johns, AZ
US 191 to Zuni cut-off
AZ 61 becomes NM 53 through Zuni to El Morro National Monument (Must See)
NM 53 to I-40 East to Albuquerque

Other Most Scenic
US-60 East through Springerville, Quemado, and Datil
Stop to see the Very Large Array (VLA)
Continue on US-60 to I-25 North to Albuquerque

Most Expeditious:
AZ-61 to St. Johns, AZ
US 191 north to I-40
I-40 East to Albuquerque

Happy Trails
