on the road again

we left show low , az headed for albuq, nm and traveled az route 61 through st johns and then continuing on into new mexico on route 53 which takes one through zuni land and ramah...all stretches of navajo indian country....a very scenic drive...that dumps you out on I40 at grants, new mexico...and then the drive into town where we stayed at the high desert rv park on the western outskirts.

monday morning it was off to holiday travel trailers, the airstream dealer...where they competently replaced the converter/charger in our stream....

then we headed north to a camp at Bernalillo and the coronado monument on the banks of the rio grande....nice overnight stop...

then on northward to Cochiti Lake...an earthen damn...the 11th largest in the country...that impounds the mighty rio grande....a nice COE park is there and also a great overnight stop.

today we head into santa fe for a two day stay at the trailer ranch rv park......

I'm Glad You Found Coronado Monument

The monument and its lovely RV park on the banks of the Rio Grande are often overlooked. My wife and I volunteer each year at the monument grooming trails and restoring adobe walls.

Coronodo Monument rv park is a neat little place...the lake at cochili is also a place not to be missed.

we are at the trailer ranch in santa fe...all because of crawford gene's recommendation....it is ok but the traffic in santa fe, as well as albuquerque is horrendous

Sorry I Didn't Warn You

I avoid Santa Fe at all costs. There is nothing inside the city limits worth fighting the traffic for, especially pulling an Airstream.
If you head east from Santa Fe, the NM State Park at Conchas Lake is nice.
If you head south back though Albuquerque and points further south, Valley of Fire campground is beautiful as is Oliver Lee Memorial State Park.
Happy Trails.
Too bad you can't join us for the Punkin Chunkin' Rally at Estancia, NM this weekend.

I agree with Alumaholic: Avoid Santa Fe at all costs, especially if you're towing a trailer. And don't leave ANYTHING unlocked or unattended in your vehicles. Even for a second. Otherwise your memories of New Mexico won't be fond memories. Same goes for staying overnight at a hotel.
I know, I've lived in Albuquerque for many years. Hate to say it, but it's true.

You people need to get out more. I would have to say driving through Albuquerque is worse than Santa Fe because it has 4X the number of people who can't drive.

Santa Fe has so much to see and experience in history, art, food, and architecture. I would not advise anyone to try towing around some of the old parts of Santa Fe because the streets are so tight. However, I have been to Black Canyon which means some tight turns but if you just take your time and take it wide, people will move. Santa Fe has sprawled, but what city hasn't?

Having lived in Chicago, Phoenix and Ft. Lauderdale, -- Santa Fe is a breeze for traffic. And I don't know to many people who don't lock their vehicles these days. Santa Fe is definitely worth seeing and there are three great RV parks on the south end and SE of town.
