We are thinking about going back to Gulf Shores in Dec for a week or so, anyone know what is happening there?
We stayed at the Gulf State park, and another time at a resort off the beach, might do the resort once again as it was pretty nice.
Also anyone going there in mid Dec let us know, maybe we can hook up. I am planning on possibly the 18 or so thru the 23.

Bad shape. No access. No estimate for opening. Most facilities destroyed. Campground closed until further notice. Recommend calling before making any plans.

I will be in Gulf Shores tommorrow so I will see how the private parks are back and functioning. I know Gulf Breeze RV park is fine, its about 2 miles N of the intercoastal off hwy 59. Not sure about the state park, will try to get down there and post on it.
I would not recommend Bay Breeze because they do not refund any money if your trip is cancelled, even well in advance. They also will return phone calls. This was last summer before the hurricane hit.

It's Time To Rally!
Falluminum '08 - Georgia Mountain Fairgrounds
Hiawassee, GA
November 7-9, 2008
The panhandle of FL is pretty much in the same condition as that
part of lower Alabama. I have been trying to find a campground
that offers extended stays and most of them are full from Pensacola
to Panama City.
These fall in two categories. ( note: $10 separates cheap from high
dollar in my book)
1. The cheaper places are full of all the various recovery workers
that are staying in the area. There are hundreds of campers
all over the place around here. People are sleeping in tents
all over Pensacola. The KOA campground off I-10 is packed
for example.
2. The high dollar $20/night and up campgrounds will soon be filled with
Winter visitors. These are mainly in Navarre and Destin. Reservations
required, and a campground in Destin said no Travel Trailers!
There are however some campgrounds that are available.
If you are active or ex Military there are some of the nicest places
you can imagine in the panhandle area.
If you don't mind higher prices and extensive regulations you can always
stay in one of the State Parks in the area.
Let me know and I can get you a list complete with phone numbers. I
have done a lot of calling over the past month.
Mystic Springs, owned and operated by the Pensacola WBCCI Unit, is located near the Alabama border about 40 miles north of Pensacola. I read a recent post that they are reopened after clearing 96 trees that were blown down. We stayed there and took day trips to Gulf Shores. Great park and only $13/night! Just another possibility for you.
[Thanks . looks like I will call when I get a bit closer to deciding the plans. We have been to Mystic Springs twice, and it was ok but not much there for the kids. Hope to get closer to the beach area. If it doesn't pan out we might go to St. Augustine area instead.

Norby, I have to ask. . .your old navy buddy at Bayou la Batre. . .wouldn't be connected with the High Tide Restaurant and Bakery, would he? Great place to eat and talk! We love that community/area and keep wondering how B la B and Dauphin came through. We did get some info from the NOAA maps given on an earlier post.

Norby, I suspected as much, but if you ever get to Bayou, go to the High Tide (assuming all is well since Ivan), enjoy the gumbo and shrimp, indulge in some special bakery item, and spend some time with Jigger! Thanks for the link-it's bookmarked now.
