My daughter, grandson & I are heading out with the Bambi II for her first real journey to Destin, FL. I opted not to be right on the beach because of the little guy needing a place to play other than sand. Did you stay at the Campgulf? Any places there that we have to go to??

Big Biloxi and Buccaneer are really nice parks on the MS gulf coast.
Or come join us at Yocona Ridge!
If you could find a campsite near Mobile Bay you could tour that battleship and submarine if you haven't already.

If you like Oysters you have to go to Posey's in Panacea, Florida (on the Gulf, south of Tallahassee). Prices are right, and their steamed oysters—Garlic & Parmesan, and Cheese & Bacon will change your life. My wife and stayed near there for a few days a couple years ago (rented a house on the water) and we ate there like 5 times!

Restaurant Outing on the 4th of July Weekend - Fresh Apalachicola Oysters $4 per Dozen

Posey's Up the Creek Seafood Steam Room and Oyester Bar
1506 Coastal Hwy, Panacea, FL ‎

Your trip is over by now probably. For anyone else I would recommend some sites in FL. In the south from Palm Beach area you can head west along the Sugar Cane run across the state (as we called it) route 80 via Belle Glade OR go south toward Miami and visit some great parks - Biscayne and Everglades NP then on to Naples. Sanibel is the shelling capital of the hemisphere but if you want nice beach and water, head to Nokomis and Oscar Scherer SP. The beach is south of the park. The water is crystal clear. I have not been to Crystal River, FL but it is supposed to be nice as well, especially for canoe and kayak peeps. Everything is a spring something up there. I have a trip in two weeks planned for Oleno State Park- will let you know. I have to mention Anastasia State Park (St Augustine) I know wrong coast but I really like that park. There is also a small victorian home town up there somewhere that is supposed to be neat to see. When you take the curve onto the panhandle the beaches become sloped. The barrier island areas like St George's Island et al are nice. Some have parks. If you want a trip a bit north to Marianna, see Florida Caverns SP via I-10. Then as other said, Topsail.

He is looking for a Thanksgiving destination.
He won't take delivery of his trailer for 3 weeks.

Actually, I reupped this thread because I'm going to Destin, FL next week. Going to a place called Campgulf right on the water & was just wondering if anyone had suggestions of things nearby that we shouldn't miss!

Camping on the Gulf is the only Rv park that I have encountered that allows camping actually fronting the ocean. You are literally in the sand. The number of spots with this frontage are limited in the park. They charge a lot here. They also pack you in tight. Despite all this the park is very popular and campers reserve up to a full year in advance.

They actually had some open for next week right at the front. I opted for one a little further back with some grass so (hopefully) I can stake in my awning. Here's hoping it's warm!!!

Despite the negatives, the park has a ton of amenities. Being back a ways is a good choice. Enjoy your stay.
