When at Gulf Shores try the Original Oyster House on Hwy 59 toward beach just past last marsh stream bridge on right in Gulf Shores. We have eaten there several times over past 15+ years and never had a bad sea food meal. It's one of the more popular restaurants there.

Sunset isle rv park in Cedar Key. Quiet, golf cart rides to restaurants, an old museum, friendly people and good food. About 60 miles sw of Gainesville where there is a butterfly museum, art museum and a natural history museum all connected to the Univ of Fl. Jim

I know nothing about Top Sail, but i used to visit Destin some 50 odd years ago, before it was built up. The beach was fantastic, and was so white that it looked like snow. My father would take us there because we actually missed snow. We lived in New Orleans, and I would plan on gaining some weight there, but because New Orleans is so much fun ( music and food ), I think people neglect exploring Cajun Country. Please, have some fun for me.

Another vote for the Naval Aviation museum in Pensacola. We spend 10 days there every spring. The beaches around Destin are beautiful and a good Airstream buddy just got home from Top Sail, which is east of Destin just a few miles where they had a grand time. Henderson Beach state Park is right between Destin and Sand Destin if you want to be closer to town.

If Top Sail is booked check-out Grayton Beach, just a few miles east of Top Sail. Fort Desoto is a great county campground near St Petersburg. Try WP Franklin Park near Ft Myers (a Corp of Engineers Pk) or Koreshan State Park just north of Naples. Also dont miss the Florida Keys, several state parks but they fill-up fast. Sometimes if you're lucky you can catch a cancellation. The booking window for the Florida State Parks open 11 months in advance and the Keys are popular year round. Private campgrounds are available in the Keys but are expensive.

I love that place, but I prefer the one on the causeway. Better view, less crowded, and the same food. As an added bonus, the parking lot on the causeway can usually accommodate a vehicle towing an AS too. Regardless, I second the recommendation!

If you want to take your significant other to a pretty nice restaurant while in the gulf shores/orange beach area...hit up this restaurant while in that area....took my wife there on a whim a couple year back and service and the food was AMAZING..

We go to gulf shores or destin area annually (house or condos mostly, havent camped it in a little while)...love the gulf beaches. Enjoy.

To add to the "don't get out of Florida too soon" post, Manatee Springs State Park on U.S. 19. Spring flows into the Suwannee River with a boardwalk to see it.

I will suggest Fort Pickens on Santa Rosa Island. Nice campground, and there's a lot to see and do in the area.

Great campground. Their beachfront site is wonderful. It's actually on the Northshore of the bay, not the gulf. It's still awesome as the picture shows. Gulf Islands National Seashore Parks are nearby.

Downtown Robertsdale, AL (Near Mobile), and downtown Ocean Springs, MS (Near Biloxi) are great also.

I am from what they call the WestBank of New Orleans. I would not stay at Bayou Segnette CG. My preference when we return is on what is called the NorthShore. There is Fountainbleu State Park in Covington (on a rails to trails route) r Fairview Riverside in Madisonville on the Tchefunce River. Of course to see N O have to cross the Causeway over Lake Pontchartrain which is about 24 miles long. But I enjoy the ride and seeing the pelicans.

If you are going to leave and go into Cajun Country...got a few suggestions there that I love to visit.

I imagine you wouldn't. That's almost like paying to camp in your own back yard. Same reason I personally wouldn't stay at the KOA in Kenner. That's entirely too close to home for me.

But other AirForums members who have come to New Orleans stayed at Bayou Segnette and liked it. Different strokes…

So we're on our way; thought I'd share one all part of our adventures so far.
I know this isn't the right forum gor such an update, but what the heck ...

Last Thursday we were traveling south from Santa Fe headed to San Antonio via Rosswell, NM. Hwy 285 clear skies, hot, no traffic, about 1 in the afternoon. Looking up we became aware of a dark shadow starting to blot out the sun. The shadow grew larger and darker assuming a roundish shape with an odd glow around the edges. It seemed to be tracking us along the highway. This went on for about five minutes. I began to wonder if the Airstream we were towing looked like something familiar to whatever seemed to looking down from above. Then, BANG! The Suburban's AC went out just about the time our vehicle shuddered and our dashboard went berserk. Then the shadow seemed to disappear into the sky off to the right. The dashboard dials settled back to normal and Bobbie and I looked at each other, kinda not believing what had just happened ... in Roswell, yet ... all those stories of alien encounters. Strange, weird ..,,

Nah... just kidding, except for the broken AC part. Our AC compressor did fail in Roswell and we ended up driving almost two days thru southern Texas in the 100's without air conditioning. Stopping in San Antonio late Friday afternoon, Bobbie found a Chevy dealer with the parts we needed and a service department open on Labor Day weekend.

Everything's now fixed, our wallet's a bit lighter, but we have heavenly cool air in the Sub.

It could have been a lot worse, the Lord's watching over us. .... and probably that strange, alien starship that was circling Roswell 😊 ...
