St. George island and the forgotten coast not to be missed. I have lived in FL 35 years and have passed by, flown over that area often, but never checked it out. Was like the FL of my youth.

That's one reason I am not in politics. I said something in utero that can never be forgiven.

If you make it to the Naval Aviation Museum, go a little early and tour the Pensacoa lighthouse across the street. St. Joe bay is a special place all its own. One of the most beautiful places in all of Florida.

Anyone here an "Easy Rider" movie fan?

The whole movie was about traveling by motorcycles to New Orleans for Mardi Gras. Billy and Captain America rode the wrong way through Louisiana, all the way to New Orleans. If you watch the movie and know the area, you may catch the error ...

The scene in the graveyard happened in the same cemetary where my grandfather and his family are buried.

There was a cafe in Simmsport where the movie crew encountered "Louisiana Justice", swiftly. It is no longer there.

The levee where the ride ended as they were shot gunned down is not far from there from what I hear.

Camping on the Gulf in Destin, Florida is a unique opportunity to park and camp right on the crystal sands of Destin's beach. Crack your rear window and listen to the waves crash all night. Campgulf.com

Gulf Coast Points of Interest

When at Gulf Shores try the Original Oyster House on Hwy 59 toward beach just past last marsh stream bridge on right in Gulf Shores. We have eaten there several times over past 15+ years and never had a bad sea food meal. It's one of the more popular restaurants there.

Sunset isle rv park in Cedar Key. Quiet, golf cart rides to restaurants, an old museum, friendly people and good food. About 60 miles sw of Gainesville where there is a butterfly museum, art museum and a natural history museum all connected to the Univ of Fl. Jim

Stop at Top Sail during the Can Opener Rally. Weekend of January 10th if I remember correctly.

HiHo mentioned Top Sail near Destin...

I know nothing about Top Sail, but i used to visit Destin some 50 odd years ago, before it was built up. The beach was fantastic, and was so white that it looked like snow. My father would take us there because we actually missed snow. We lived in New Orleans, and I would plan on gaining some weight there, but because New Orleans is so much fun ( music and food ), I think people neglect exploring Cajun Country. Please, have some fun for me.

Another vote for the Naval Aviation museum in Pensacola. We spend 10 days there every spring. The beaches around Destin are beautiful and a good Airstream buddy just got home from Top Sail, which is east of Destin just a few miles where they had a grand time. Henderson Beach state Park is right between Destin and Sand Destin if you want to be closer to town.
