Campgrounds around St. Louis

We will be going to St. Louis and were looking for a campground to stay at. There is a KOA in Eureka that looked ok. I think the one in St. Louis was in a not so good area. We don't mind staying outside of St. Louis. With the kids we wanted a safe location and did not think the Casino Magic RV park was the best place for them. I had wanted to stay at Babler state park, but found out that they did not have water connections, so that was out. Any suggestions?

The KOA in Eureka is nice with very friendly owners and is - without traffic - only about 20-25 minutes from downtown. It's typical KOA fare - the sites aren't huge, the bathrooms are clean, and it serves as a good base but not necessarily a destination. There is a small, old cemetery adjacent to the park that might be a bit off-putting to some visitors. Across Interstate 44 from the KOA is a Jellystone Resort; however, the sites there seemed small and difficult to access when we drove through once.

Babler is definitely very nice - we recommend it to out-of-towners - but, as you mentioned, is electric-only. If you require full hook-ups or W/E, the KOA in Eureka would be my recommendation.

Thanks. I'm glad to hear that the KOA is only a 20-25 min drive. I was worried that it was going to be a longer drive. I think that is where we will stay. I will ask to be away from the cemetary. I don't think the kids would appreciate seeing tombstones out the window at night, but there are worse things to be camping next to!

When are you going to be in St. Louis?

I may be able to courtesy park you with water and electric. I am about 25-30 minutes from downtown St. Louis in O'fallon, MO.

Thanks Steve. That is really nice of you, but a sewer connection will really be handy with 7 of us. That is one thing I wish we could change about the Airstream...bigger holding tanks!
