Great trip to MS Gulf coast.

We had a blast. We stayed at Buccaneer State Park which just recently reopened after rebuilding from Katrina destruction. The park is very nice and the bathrooms were nicest and cleanest I've seen in a state park. They aren't finished with all phases yet, camp store and laundry facilities will be completed for summer 2011 and the water park is scheduled to reopen for summer 2012.

We had quite a few first experiences on this trip. The kids and I saw a bald eagle in the wild for the first time, we saw dolphins swimming in the ocean, we saw rays swimming by us in ocean, we saw several bird species we'd never seen before, we saw hundreds of Monarch butterflies at same time, we went deep sea fishing for the first time and paddled a yak in ocean for first time. It was full of lasting memories. We literally had the beach all to ourselves during the week and the weather was fantastic.

The deep sea fishing trip was a super success, we brought home 60 lbs of filleted fish and fish stakes. We caught red fish, king mackerel, spanish mackerel and about 10 Jacks we threw back in because they are evidently not good to eat. The Jacks were fun to catch though as well as pretty to look at. Captain Mike with Fish-Finder Charters is the man. The whole family had a blast.
here are some pics of trip:

Sounds like a great trip; and thanks for the pix. Now, if I can just get moving again...

Looks like a great trip, and what sweet babies!

The Mississippi Gulf Coast is one of our favorite areas, going back there this winter.

Also meant to say that we saw no oil anywhere and every local we talked to and the 7 boat captains I spoke with (sev. of which worked on monitoring and finding oil) all said it was blown way out of proportion and that killed their tourist trade (i.e. their economy) this year and will hurt them for a few more years yet until people forget about the stigma of the oil spill. It's sad because this are was already hurting from the damage by Katrina. I highly recommend visiting the Gulf Coast.
