I like the Cherokee side of the Smokies. Much quieter, not as commercial. The heritage of the Cherokee nation is aptly told at various spots, and the museum is highly recommended. It is on our list for the next trip, didn't get to see it as we had no place to keep our dog out of the heat (this was our pop- up days). The campgrounds here had most all one could want - level sites, hookups, swimming, fishing, hiking, close to the park.

Hey Gal, I promise you won't be disappointed! They have cable tv with something like 100 channels. Some spots are shaded and others in the new section are open. That's where I like to stay, trees are to messy. Some are pull-thru and others are back in. They have two creeks that join on their property. That's where the name comes from. Kids can play in them and fish. Playground for the kids. Sometimes a deer or bear even makes a visit. Top notch, no tents allowed.

Thank you all so much for your wonderful recommendations. Keep them coming. I'm transferring them into my "must do" files.

We stayed in the Smokey's last May prior to our trip up the Blue Ridge Parkway and enjoyed it immensely. Our blog, the Barefootdog.com, documents our travels. Click here for the posting starting out at Cades Cove.
