Michael,
You can have fresh seafood instead of turkey. The specs should be biting too so surf fishing should be in order.

Have a big time and like John said, post some photos.

I was just there a week ago. The skeeters were fierce! First couple of days I had so many skeeter bites I looked like I had mumps.

I saw Frank's video. Looked like folks were wearing head netting for bug protection. I have a new toy to try out, a Thermacell.

Have a safe trip! There is not much you can do to keep skeeters away..

Having grown up along the LA coast (including One thing that seems to work for me.. is wearing long sleeves, etc.. But, before heading over, take some of your 'outdoor' clothes.. save for the outdoor time.. Take them and spray with 'DEET'.. the old 6-12 is no longer sold.. it worked better than the military grade... for me.. Now, take the clothes outside with an "old, dedicated pillow case" and garbage bag.. Spray the clothes well, make sure you cover the back of clothes heaviest... put inside the pillow case... now, slip the full pillow case into the garbage bag. Seal with a knot in the garage bag after it 'sits' for about an hour outside..

When you are heading outside, open the bags and pillow case... Usually the 'bugs' hover about 2 feet out... and hum like they are mad.. =)

Thanks but very aware of how to handle mosquitos. They are the unofficial state bird where I live. I also spend a lot of time in that area of Lousiania. Most of my family is from down there and many live in and around Homa.

Years back we tent camped on the GI State Park a lot. Use to be able to drive truck on beach and park with everything you need for fishing, cooking, fire wood right next to the surf. It was so nice making a camp fire on the beach till mid night, take good shower an climb in to tent. Wish we could still do that today only with airstream. Yea I'm getting a little soft. Oh and a lot less mosquitos near surf with breeze coming of Gulf.

Grand Isle SP

Considering different options for this year and looked at Grand Isle SP. We stayed at Palmetto Island SP last year and loved it, plus the great food in Abbeyville. Should we try out Grand Isle, how's the roads getting there, any great food, and/or anything we should know would be appreciated?

The drive down to Grand Isle is very pretty, and very unusual if you have not been thru there before.

The campground is nice, the beach is nice, it is a good place to go to and to see.

This time of the year, it may be chilly.

Yes....Jan & Feb, as I recall.

March is more Spring than Winter in Louisiana.

It has been cold and windy there early in the year, once had not been cold enough to kill off the mosquitoes....they were a real problem that time.

The mosquitos down there are mutants. The are impervious to all weather and immune to all pesticides.
Personally I like going down there anytime of the year. Always very laid back and relaxed. March is definetly not winter in south Louisiana.
