My only regret is that I wasn't on my boat at Lake Powell a day earlier. It would have made for interesting conversation if the rangers had even been able to find me ....

We're Sick and Tired...
Will it come to this?
(1) NP + (50) AS's + (1) Bolt Cutter = (1) Fine act of citizen activism
I suspect that these kinds of scenarios will start happening in my lifetime. Because they will walk all over us for as long as we permit it. And the Millenials aren't going to take it.

Agree with Lothlorian. Just go....somewhere, anywhere. Even if it means camping in your mother-in-law's driveway.
There are still a plethora of RV parks that would welcome the biz!
I gave up relying on individuals, organizations, or gawd forbid, the government, in that quest to find some kind of personal validation, reward, and happiness.
The FaN makes me happy (for the most part). Where it goes, I go...and I am happy.
Okay. I'll get off my soapbox now. (It's raining, and has become awfully slippery).

I'll be good, I promise. Just have to let off a little of the pressure sometimes. Self-indulgent I know.
I'm going to continue reading about Sewer Solution. Just ordered one.

I got an email today from the Missouri Parks department. All Missouri state parks are unaffected and open. This includes state parks on any Corp of Engineer lakes. Not open however, are the Corp of Engineer campgrounds.
Some of the Corp of Engineer lakes in Missouri have both state and federal campgrounds. So you should feel comfortable if you have state park reservations or camping plans in state parks on Corp lakes in my state.

Threads discussing politics are allowed as long as the material contained therein relates to RV’ing or Airstreams. The current government shutdown certainly applies here and potentially impacts members in the form employment or recreation. Today we cleaned up several politically charged posts that were not associated with RV'ing or member travels.
We are leaving this thread open; however going forward let’s keep the thread within context of the Community Rules. We understand threads meander on and off topic, but tracking into politics in any form will be cause for closing the thread.

This may have been stated before, but I have been coming across little gems in county parks. Many of the are not on the big camping web sites, and you have to search for them by county. Look around and keep counting!

Will they close highways?
Heading into Albequerque tomorrow for the festival. Have been on the road a little over two weeks now and our plan to return to the northwest had us going through Death Valley and then Yosemite.
We obviously will have to skirt these two spots but I would REALLY like to be able to take highway 190 through Death Valley. I can understand them closing down all the campgrounds and tourist sights but can they shut down the highway? Who should I call to find out?
Thanks. Dick

Just answered my own question
OK, I just found this website
http://www.doi.gov/shutdown/fy2014/upload/NPS-FAQ.pdf
In it they say that all roads acting as thoroughfares will remain open. So, I should be good to go. I read this on an official government website. What could possibly go wrong?

Good luck with your trip, aftermath. Hopefully by the time you get there everything will be reopened. Let's keep our collective fingers crossed for that. Just to be safe, I'd have a "Plan B" in place in case you get somewhere and find the road through Yosemite blocked. Since Tioga Road into Yosemite from the east and passing through the Park and over the Sierra Nevadas is also the main eastern entrance point into the park and all the campgrounds and services, it is conceivable that it could be closed. (We were there in July.) We have not been through Death Valley (yet ... saving that for a winter trip) so I'm not sure what the set-up is like there.

The world famous Hot Air Balloon Fiesta starts on Sat.
We have traveled a great distance to get here and are really looking forward to this event! 200 Airstream rigs will be staying on the Fiesta grounds organized by 4 corners unit and I think another, which I do not remember which. They have apparently had this arrangement for many years. Maybe you will see us on the grounds on the news. Just look for the silver trailer

I went to the commissary tuesday to load up for the Nor Cal Forum Rally next week. It was only open because of the perishables that would get wasted. then it closed wed. One day into the FUBAR, like that's gonna make a difference. None of the employees were thrilled about being out of work for who knows how long. I'm getting tired of the c- students running the country.
