GoPro's on the Road

I think I'm catching the GoPro bug like so many others. I'm going to be spending four months traveling through the spectacular Southwest of this spectacular country of ours and I'm thinking a GoPro could take some great shots.

One way to use one that seems like a lot of fun is to mount it on a kite. I haven't researched on how to do this yet, but seems like you could get some pretty good pictures around Arches, Zion and other parks. Probably no shortage of wind.

Anyone fooling around with these cameras? It'd be fun to hear some ideas from this creative group. And to see some pictures - especially pictures!

I've got a Hero 3 and really like it. I take it when I want to take pictures of the kids in water and snow.

I currently have one mounting point for the camera on my trailer, drivers side at the front, for time lapses. The only problem with the GoPro is the battery life. It dies after about 90 minutes of taking pictures, at 10 sec intervals.

I also got a suction mount. Apparently it's rated to 200mp/h, but it still makes me nervous.

This is a time lapse shot when I took her to winter storage a couple of weeks back.

Here's a little video I put together of some of our travels. Note the reflection you get if you put the GoPro on the side of the trailer - about 50 seconds into the video and various points throughout. Put it on HD.

Send a message via Yahoo to Jim Foster
There is a load of information on the internet regarding Kite Aerial Photography (KAP). Look at American Kiteflyers Association (AKA), Gone With The Wind (GWTW) forum, also the Illinois Kit Entheusiasts (IKE) forum. There are KAP videos on YouTube.

Most of the GoPro trailer video was taken on back roads near Paso Robles and Morro Bay (lots of oak trees!). The views from the dinette were in Malibu and Carlsbad (California).
