Been there, done that too many times. It hurts every time.
But the great times and happy memories will eventually outweigh the grief.
Our commiserations to you.
Our advice: don't wait too long before you find another companion. Life is too short to be without a dog.

Jake was a lucky pup. Just think of the wonderful life he had. It's one that we all would envy. He's a great pup to give you such lovely memories. 💔

Where To Bury a Dog

Sorry to hear of your loss. He looked like a great travel companion. The following article was written by Ben Hur Lampman in 1927, I believe. It is the best thing I've found for times of loss like yours.

Sorry for your loss. Airstreaming dogs have the best in life. Memories forever and "all dogs go to heaven."

I have a Golden. I'm crying real tears for you. I know it hurts, but I know you'd do it all again in-spite of the pain of losing him. It's the price we pay for all of that unconditional love that's been lavished on us, and it's worth every penny.

The Best Place to Bury a Dog

...Beneath a cherry tree, or an apple, or any flowering shrub, is an excellent place to bury a good dog. Beneath such trees, such shrubs, he slept in the drowsy summer, or gnawed at a flavorous bone, or lifted head to challenge some strange intruder. These are good places, in life or in death. Yet it is a small matter. For if the dog be well remembered, if sometimes he leaps through your dreams actual as in life, eyes kindling, laughing, begging, it matters not at all where that dog sleeps.

On a hill where the wind is unrebuked, and the trees are leafing, or beside a stream he knew in puppyhood, or somewhere in the flatness of a pastureland where most exhilarating cattle graze. It is all one to the dog, and all one to you, and nothing is gained, and nothing lost--if memory lives.

But there is one best place to bury a dog. If you bury him in this spot, he will come to you when you call - come to you over the grim, dim frontiers of death, and down the well remembered path, and to your side again. And though you call a dozen living dogs to heel they shall not growl at him, nor resent his coming, for he belongs there. People may scoff at you who see no lightest blade of grass bend by his footfall, who hear no whimper, people who may never really have had a dog. Smile at them, for you shall know something that is hidden from them, and that is well worth the knowing.

The one best place to bury a good dog is in the heart of his master.

I'm so sorry for your loss, SilverEagle. It is so hard to say goodbye to our beloved companions. I do not relish the Day when our Border Collie leaves us. Again. Sorry for your loss....
