Good news about Keys camping

We just got back from spending a couple of weeks in the Keys ,had good weather , great fishing and our dog had a great time at the beach (we did too). But best of all the subprime mess has saved a couple campgrounds from becoming condo lands. Knights Key in Marathon is remaining open and my favorite spot for over 30 years- Fiesta Key KOA is staying open though it will is longer affiliated with KOA and will be independently owned.

We stayed at Fiesta Key and I am happy to report the place is getting put back in good order and the staff was terrific. While we were there they even had a slow season deal , stay 3 nights for the price of two. Since they will no longer be a KOA they plan to offer weekly and monthly rates in the upcoming season we were told. I know- its a lot more pricey than the state parks and you are not camped on a beach but I don't like camping in sand- had enough of that in near a place called Da Nang.

Glad to hear there will be options to the year in advanced book state parks. Not that this will be much different in the winter, but it will give options for those of us that have never been camping in the keys.
